So, I'm new to this whole scene and I'm really getting into modifying my Baja warrior. I removed the governor so far and basically just fixed it up to good working condition. I have been using it to race around a track I made for my friends Coleman CT200.
I used to be big into karting and formula 2000, so after a few drinks last weekend I had the idea of mounting a karting engine on to a minibike. Other than figuring out where to situate the exhaust, it doesn't need a radiator and its single gear, so no shifter would be required. Maybe it's just because I'm new to this, but I feel like it would be possible. The engine I want to use is a IAME Komet KFS 100cc. It's a 2-stroke, 16hp engine with max RPM of 14,500.

It's an idea, that's for sure.

well , not much of a problem really.. except that your minibike is likely to desintegrate with an engine that violent ;)

BUT if you're willing to take your chances.. just do it.
Desertduler did something very similar last year
See here
Yes, it's a higher quality frame, and a slower turning industrial two stroke
(but since it packs a slightly bigger punch with three times the combustion volume.. I thinks it's fair to compare the two ideas)

NOW.. last thing:
I do not need to tell you about the maintenance cycles on those 100cc, do I?
Keep in mind that it doesn't make much of a difference if you push a go kart across a race track
or a mini bike across a dirt track, the engine WILL call for it's maintenance
(very likely even shorter cycled thanks to the assumed dirt and such)
else it'll kick your behind really badly
(sheesh.. those tiny needle bearings and 16horses trampling on them just don't last too long, do they ;))

3hrs, maybe 4?.. is that worth it for you?
I can't tell, I'd love to see that, I'm not sure I would want to maintain it every other weekend though.

Ya, I am aware of the upkeep. I had a IAME Leopard 125cc on my kart and I was working on it after every heat.
I’m going to save up a bit for this engine, I’ll keep you guys posted on the project!
Also, Anickode, that picture is pretty great :lolgoku:

Curious why???
Is this a drag bike??

It might sound like a stupid reason, but kind of just to see if I can. I’m using it as a race bike. I like the position I have on this bike and the handling is something to be reckoned with too. I like the idea of massive power in a light weight package. I want this bike to be like a Group B rally car on 2 wheels.
