New to this, need some help

Hello,

I would like to build an electric train for my 2 boys. This would be a train they could ride, but it will also be a trackless train.

I do not want it to go fast (2-5 mph max) but it will need some torque to pull a couple of train cars.

Any suggestions on motors and controllers.

Best choice would be kid's electric cars (trikes , bikes)- used ones , of course. Everything is there already and it has enough torque (you might want to change transmission that came with those things, if your train gets much more heavy than original thing). If you want something "serious"(meaning, more personal involvement in electrical engineering and building/connecting stuff) , internet is big and there are plenty information on this forum already, just read few threads...

Use a modified 24v cordless drill motor.

Or buy or build your own drill powered drive system and use a stock drill.
