Hi guys this is actually my first post. I've been working on a couple of projects, one being the starter modification, which has not worked yet, which I'm planning to use on a one person vehicle (tricycle) where you are supposed to ride standing, which so far does not run with the motors I have put in so far. The problem seems to be that by doing the modification, the starter does not have enough power to start moving. I guess I'll be posting a lot about that until I get it going (if you don't mind of course)

Welcome to the forum, nappy! If the starter doesn't have the oomph, perhaps it either needs rebuilding, or the gear ratio is not correct.

the starter does not have enough power to start moving.

Toystory had some good suggestions but use a volt meter to measure both power and ground at the stater, and take these readings under a load (when your trying to start moving). You need to get a test reading of at least 10-volts for your starter to have a chance of making its full power.

A weak (or undersized) battery, or battery cables of too small gauge (causing a voltage drop) might be your only problem here. Until you measure how much power and ground voltage is actually getting to the starter motor while its under a heavy load your just guessing at the cause of your problem.

Thank you guys. Allright; about the battery, it's a 70 amps. The starter is originally for an Isuzu diesel light truck, and it had a gear ratio that I reduced to a 10 teeth (on the motor) to 24 teeth (on the wheel). I might as well put the original ratio in there although it takes up a lot of space. I'll keep you guys posted. Hopefully if it works, I'll have a video of my contraption somewhere on the forum soon he-he.
