Hello all.. First off great site lots of good reading I've found so far. A little about my go kart experience... I have none.. Plan on fixing that. I have 2 small boys and would love to build a kart. I have been around boat racing for over 12 years. My in laws have quit racing and have sold the boat. Hoping to use a bit of that experience towards learning how to build a decent kart for my boys. I think I might just find a used one on craigslist to start with and work my way up for there. Hoping to learn a lot from everyone on here. Curious if anyone has built a 1/2-1/4 scale sandrail and if so could you point me to the post. I'm leaning more towards off road carts since we live in the Pacific Northwest and there are numerous logging roads to go explore. thanks for having me and hope to learn a ton on here.
Cheers :cheers2:

Welcome to the forum Ravencrew. Sounds like we have another one bitten by the kart bug.

Just off the top of my head I cannot think of a scaled down sandrail build, but have a search and see what you find.

Someone mentioned one not so long ago (I think it was swabbster but don't quote me on that) but I don't think he followed through :( It would've been an interesting build. You could be the first :D

You've got my attention! I'd love to see a 1/4 scale rail. Do you mean like shrink down a Berrien style vw rail? That would be slick. Welcome to the forum!

Welcome to DIY Ravencrew

If your used to dealing with high-quality race boats, you'll prolly end up being very disappointed in most off-road funkarts you'll find for sale. When you get the time, you should check out the pics/info in the 2 google-search links I've posted below:

Trophy karts are freakin Awesome!!!

PS:
Many of the Trophy kart racetracks have closed down across the country, so you can sometimes find bargain prices on one of these; like a nice/used $5000 Trophy kart going for like just $750 or so... (and you could simply remove the body if you like the 'rail-look' better)

And sell me that body! Lol I have an idea in my head to mod a trophy kart body onto an pilot or an Odyssey. The thing I don't like about the actual trophy karts is the suspension. Watch the YouTube videos. It doesn't work worth a crap. Especially for the price tag. They also look silly without a body IMO.

Well guys thanks for the welcomes.. Found a thread on another site digging through anderkarts google post not sure if I'm allowed to post it or not but I think I'm going to go this route, since this would suit my needs where I live. If its okay with the mods I'll post the link.. A lot of good information on this build post.

So your going to build a trophy kart? Of so keep us posted under more builds. I'd like to see one come together. I bet we can find many ways to improve upon the design. Do you have racing classes for these in your area?

There's a few different classes for racing Trophy karts, some of the classes are for kids with near stock Robin-Subaru industrial engines. Your right, the suspension on some of those karts aren't usually all that great. (just exactly like some Odyssey's... ;)

But there's also faster classes for adults, (with much-better suspension) and some serious power, like the Trophy kart in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4SYqgdEMPc&feature=relmfu

PS:
I know the FL350's (and the race-prepped models) are awesome,
but some Odyssey's dont seem to handle all that great either...

The RS450 models are the faster ones with good suspension. They also have a drivers door. This is the body I intend to do this mod with. The body alone costs $1500 plus shipping. Those are $20,000+ karts. the affordable ones arebphysically smaller and have the crappy suspension. I guess affordable is a relative term. For most of us the RS models are Just too much.

Just saw that Ody video. Thanks for posting that. I love watching that old stuff. Those 250's were back breakers for sure. I'm cringing just watching.
