New to site and gokarts

Im in east Texas. I’ve had a ken-bar x50 streaker for about 10 years now. I traded a leather jacket for it. It didn’t run at the time I got it and was a project. I kept putting it off until recently. Boy was I in for some issues. Long story short I got the motor running now so I have to figure out how to make and connect the carb linkage and free up the clutch so it will run without me having to push it off blocks. Thanks for allowing me to join.

Not sure what year it is or much about it. I do know it set under my deck for about 2 years in Ohio. Then 6 next to my fence in Louisiana and the last 4 in a barn here in Texas. These pictures are after a lot of cleaning, adjusting, and repairing. Still working on the clutch and trying to get carb linkage to work. Good thing is motor is now running pretty well.

These pictures are after a lot of cleaning, adjusting, and repairing. Still working on the clutch and trying to get carb linkage to work. Good thing is motor is now running pretty well.

Does it have a centrifugal clutch or a torque converter?

Got a comet set up. At least that’s the name stamped into the parts. I think it’s a combo unit. Centrifugal clutch and torque converter

It has a belt from the engine to a secondary pulley, then a chain from a shaft to the axle? If so this is a torque converter. No centrifugal clutch. The part on the engine is called the driver clutch. It will let the engine idle without moving the kart when working properly. Is that the part that you say is frozen? Can you post a picture of the drive train, maybe from the side with the yellow body panels removed. If the drive system is as I described, a brand new one is quite reasonable. Maybe easier than trying to refurbish and free up parts that have been sitting in the weather for 12 years.

Pancho you would be correct in your description engine clutch to pulley by belt down to drive by chain. I did not know there was a movable center part to the clutch so I punched it out cleaned and reinstalled. It moves so I will see tomorrow. Made some carb linkage today so throttle is working. Tomorrow I will see how much my work has actually fixed something. Gotta reinstall the exhaust

Ndn. Yes that is a very popular torque converter. If you don't have any luck in your efforts to refurbish it, you can order a new one. Amazon probably has 10 different brands for sale. They are all from China and they all work very well. There isn't a bit of difference between brand A, B, or C. It is a 30 series torque converter. They are priced from about $60 to $70. You get everything in the kit.
The mounting plate that bolts to the engine, the drive clutch that goes on the crankshaft, the driven clutch, the shaft it rides on, two small sprockets for either pitch of chain, a belt guard and a cheap Chinese belt. It will eventually break and when that does happen you want to replace it with a Comet brand belt. It will outlast 4 or 5 of the cheaper belts. I own 3 big two seater karts and one mini bike equipped with units as described above and they work great.
Important: Verify that the crank on your engine is 3/4"

Thank you. I think it is working now that I cleaned up the inner part of the drive clutch. Had to stop and fix a crack in my fuel tank now. If it ain’t one thing it’s another. Lol.

Now she runs. New carb. Made Carb linkage new throttle cable. New driven spring and miscellaneous others parts. Runs good and donuts in the dirt are great.

It has been different to say the least. Never had a go kart before so it’s fun. Rough as hell on the dirt roads a pastures I have around here. Lol. At 67yo it’s a trip
