Just bought a mini chopper that I saw driving down the road. It brought back a TON of memories, so I had to have it. He also had an XR-80 (same bike I got when I was 8), but I couldn't justify buying both. Hopefully this one will be a cool project like the Red Fox go-kart project.

I did check the oil, in which a LOT of gas/oil rushed out as I was taking the fill cap off. There must have been at least 2 quarts. I drained it all out, replaced the drain plug and put in some Marvel Mystery Oil. I shook it around a bit and then drained it. I was a purple color coming out. Then I put in some HD30.

Next I pulled the spark plug (which was fouled). I cleaned it up and then made sure I was getting spark. Put the plug back in and filled it up with gas. Starting it was pretty easy on full choke, but it had to stay in full choke to run. Removing it even for a second caused a shut-down.

I already had written the engine off when I bought it, so it running was a welcomed plus. I suppose I'll just get a rebuild kit for the engine and call it good as the Subaru 7 HP engine that I have will not fit into the current configuration. I suppose I could weld up some crazy mount for it to work, but I like the nostalgia of the original engine.

wait i thought you said you saw it drive down the road? i was running then right? so you changed the oil and gas and it only runs on choke? i say give the carb a good cleaning.

I think he means that he saw it while HE was driving down the road.

That is one sweet chopper. I like the minimalistic look. :drool5:

Correct, I was driving down the road and saw it on the side of the road with some other items for sale.

It was difficult to ride due to the engine not running correctly. It actually turned very well, just not at low speeds.

I'm sure that the rings are shot, especially if it has gas in the oil. I don't even see a name on the engine. I wish the Subaru engine would fit on it without too much modification.

It was $100.00. Looking back, I guess that may be a little high, but I talked him down from $125.00. Heck for a bike that runs, I figured I got a fairly good deal.

This Fall/Winter I'll tear it apart. It's too hot out right now.
