Hello everyone!

Name is Mike and just picked up this kart from my co-worker. Said it has been sitting for many years. Well we brought it home and tore it completely down ( i.e. pulled spindles, steering, old brakes, etc.). Plan is to media blast it and add some new tubing to it. My boys want to put some sort of full body on it and just have some fun.

I also have a great running 3 hp tecumseh engine that I would like to add to it. I know absolutely zilch when it comes to these. Are they similar to a briggs internally? Would like to get some more power out of it and was wondering what the first steps in working on these little engines?

Have the mechanic ability to modify the frame and work on the engine so diy is not a problem. :)

Not sure what brand this is either. If anyone knows, please let me know. Always cool to know these things.

This will be a totally new build and have literally no parts to start with...lol

Thanks and regards to all!
Mike

Welcome! I cant tell what brand kart that is but it appears to have been lengthened quite a bit. The wheel base to track ration looks way off....
To get more power, start with a free flow filter on carb, bigger jet (not HUGE), and a good free flow exhaust. You can remove/adjust govenor for more rpm/power.... just buy a harbour freight engine,if you can. The 6.5hp is pretty nice.....

I'll agree on the HF engine. If you have no idea what that 3 horse engine is going to do for that kart, but already want more power; I wouldn't spend a dime on that Tec. You'd be throwing good money at something bad.

I'm assuming you want to make the most power for as little money as you can. Sell the Tec, and put that money towards a HF 212. It's as cheap as power will come by these days for a new engine.

Welcome to the forum Mike; how old are your boys?

Well, all internal combustion engines are similar :D

was wondering what the first steps in working on these little engines?

Step 1: Get in your car & drive to the nearest Harbor Freight
Step 2: Go inside & pick up a Predator 212cc engine
Step 3: Take it to the register (you see where I'm going, right?)

Sell the Tec, and put that money towards a HF 212.

You assume the Tec is actually worth something...

Seriously now, Tecumseh went out of business a few years ago so, sourcing parts is becoming more difficult as the days go by. Don't scrap it just yet, if you can get something for it, great; if not, stick it under a bench for another project (maybe a mini bike); it's not gonna give you enough beans to push that kart around...

It does look like some sort of addition was done behind the rear axle...other than that, it didn't look modified but who knows.... :)

I will check out the predator engine.... I have a HF up the street and a bunch of coupons. :)

If you wait until they go on sale, you can pick one up for $80 - $100 with a coupon
