New to go karts and the forum.

Hey ladies and gents. My name is Jack. Just recently acquired a go kart. Don't know the first thing about them but willing to learn... Going to need some help identifying and repairing this project....
Any help would be awesome

Start by spraying that rear wheel/ busted axle with penetrating oil.

The good news is that's a relatively easy fix... as long as you have a welder...

it's a great opportunity to switch over to a live axle with just a tiny bit more welding to do

Well I have temporarily fixed it with a replacement...I will go to live axle a little later...I have the ability to weld and fabricate (some).
Anyone give me any idea on what the year and make would be ?

Maybe if we had some pics of it out of the tall grass vines and Shadows.
There are a couple things that give it away, but I do not recall right now.
That squiggly snake thing between the feet, hmmm

It looks like a Carter Brothers kart, maybe a 2XXX series but almost impossible to tell for certain.

Well new bolt welded and rolling....currently have a 8hp motor I got off a buddy a Honda gx240 now to get it mounted

Well after a good pressure washing...I now know model and serial number. Discontinued...oh well. Guess I wasn't sure what I'd find out any how. Time to weld

Finding parts shouldn't be a problem anyway--as most kart parts are sort of generic.

That squiggly piece of steel rod mounted by the gas pedal is a foot rest to stop the foot from sliding off sideways. It's supposed to be pointing straight up. Neat feature actually...

So I should bend that back up? Didn't know it was supposed to be up down didn't make much sense I couldn't figure out its function

Yeah make it straight up and down. It is so your foot does not bounce away from the gas pedal.
Or the passenger does not push the gas for you.

Hey, if you're really ambitious you can cut the squiggly thing off, remove the passenger footrest and slide the steering wheel over to the center of the kart--effectively making it a one-seater (move the gas pedal over too).

I've seen a few conversions from two-seater to one so it's not without merit or feasibility.

Two-seater karts must have been made as an afterthought and intended perhaps for well-meaning parents on a budget. However they're just not cool and having two kids or two teens on one kart no doubt made the fun quotient diminish. Having two adults riding certainly wasn't going to happen.

Well, it might happen slowly... and burn out the clutch.

Welcome and your kart seems to have good bones.
things you may not have noticed is
you have a one wheel drive, band brake, pulley or belt input jackshaft rear setup.
I do not like the belt clutches so you can take off the pulley and replace it with a gear and use a cheaper and i think. Etter chain style clutch. yes you can convert it to center steer its not hard I did it.
Use one of the online gear calculators type in your weight and other things like the type of area you ride and it will
tell you what gears you need for your clutch and jackshaft. I like 7 to 1 for yard and hill riding if you have flat asphalt or hard pack land than 6 to 1 will work just fine.
