hey guys, new to the forums, but this site in general has been a big help in what to put on my go-kart i am soon to be building. my idea was a two seater go kart, with a rollcage and i was going to put a torque converter on it with a honda GX240 8HP engine, and i wasnt really sure about anything else other than design ideas, as far as like, diamond plating on the floors, what color to make it, e.t.c.

but, i was wondering if anyone had any ideas for what would make it "move" for a reasonable price, its just for toting around the streets in my neighborhood and maybe every now and then a tiny bit of "offroading" but nothing serious. any ideas or suggestions?

i will be checking in for more questions i have eventually as well.

[[this is my first kart..well...anything that has an engine..i've built so im inexperienced]]

thanks, i was viewing other's post's, and your very helpful in your responses. this forum makes a great team. like I said, ill be asking for advice many times along the way, but i was wondering if anyone knows where i can find a Honda Gx240 engine for cheaper than 650 bucks off northerntool.. and also i wanted to make sure, i could use the comet torque converter on that engine as well right? it says it works for up to 8 hp, and it is a 8 HP engine, but i want to make sure its compatible.

consider getting a honda knock off from Pep Boys, Costco, or (i think) Princess Auto... pretty cheap!

alright, thank you both, the small engines website wasn't much help. and ill look into pep boys. i suppose if i have to pay 660 dollars for it, i will eventually...but its always nice to find it cheaper.

and my thing is.. the more money i put into it the longer the build will take. but thanks for the help.. ill check pep boys.. and i think tractor supply sells go karts, i can see what they have.. i know they have full karts and wheels and whatnot.. but ill check into it.

On the engine site i posted you can get a 8hp honda for 510$. There was also a special on the front page for a 13 hp for 625$.

EDIT: when youre looking arond on that site for an engine make sure the shaft isnt tapered and that theres no gearbox. Gearboxes significantly increse the price of the engine while tapered shafts are much cheaper but you would have to machine the crankshaft to make it work.
