Granddaddy used to race Midgets and I have his old Cromwell helmet. He lived on a farm so I have a horse collar for neck support.
I'm getting goosebumps just thinking about it....

I hope he gave them a head start. ....and it's politically correct to call them little people. .....

I think your steering rope is an inadequate gauge. I would up grade to 1/2 sisal/hemp rope, it adds more grip(enough to burn your hands good in a tight turn) and thus better handling.
The truth...

Me thinks he's smoking the Hemp!

I told you guys I thought this out.
That lever sticking through the main frame is the brake.
When you're going forward it just rides on the ground.
When you want to stop you pull on it and it digs in.
Geenious, huh?

The foam covered tubafor jewel pad is scientifically designed to ensure testicular integrity isn't compromised.

I think you will be alright with your build. I would however look for a couple of old Big Wheels for their rear tires, they are great for drifting. As long as you are not able to pull the brake lever all the way back testicular integrity should not be compromised. One last thing if the nails you use are too long and go through the boards it is ok to bend them over. I would hate to see you get hurt. Could some one please model this with one of their engineering programs please or photo shop.

So... I noticed no caster/camber/Ackermann... is this gonna be an offroader or pavement dragger? I know the brake will work well for dirt/gravel... but Im concerened about the arbritrary fact that spindles are nonexistant on this build... so turning to slow down 'may' be risky... I kinda like the anchor idea (LMAO) but how bout a chute (for pavement)... or a quick release thingy that removes all the hub nuts and plops the frame on the ground?

I see you went w/ pine... outta be a good way to have a suspension (springy/bendy). And the rollcage... why not keep the wood theme and make it outta dowel rods or broomstick handles?

Yes, the steering geometry is a little primitive but performance is always a compromise.
I am thinking about some wood shims under where the front wheels attach for some camber. A wedge shaped washer under the center front axle bolt might provide caster as well.
As for Ackermann, like brakes it's over rated.
Sometimes you just gotta hang on and steer with the throttle.
My philosophy echo's that of Mr. Bugatti - "My kart, she's made to go, not stop!"
I envision nothing less than glorious spectacularosity from the finished product.

How much is one, with shipping to Houston? I only got about $350-400...... Will I need to collect some cans?

Once operational, blueprints will be made available.
I think this is the best option as it will provide a basic platform for the individual builder to make tweaks that suit their own needs.
I envision myself as the Frank Kurtis or A.J. Watson of karting.
I could make you one but shipping would be the killer.
On the other hand, you could probably make a second kart from the crate the first one was shipped in.

Or a CAB, for when it's -20° with 40mph wind up here in the northern Midwest. I'm sick and tired of freezing my assets off just to keep my karting skills sharp. Yeah, a cab, with a little stretch wrap for windows.

Build a second one with the wooden crate! You're a genius!! Maybe even get 2 out of it......
O and I'd add dual hand brakes. Could aid is turning, like a steering brake.....
