*UPDATE*

Got all of the top frame welded today. Tomorrow will have to beg, borrow or steal a pipe bender from somewhere and bend up the rollbars. Then it should really start to look like a buggy.

oorgle, I would highly recommend the Edge plans. They detail pretty much every part and have much more than just the plans. What were you planning on doing with the buggy? The Piranha (the most popular model, one up from the Sidewinder), and the Sidewinder both have quite a lot of clearance, and the Barracuda, if you're a bit crazy and have heaps of cash to blow, has something ridiculous like 20" of suspension travel.

*UPDATE*

Couldn't find a pipe bender, and my 12mm drill bit was stuffed so today I just cut most of the metal for the front and rear swingarms. The rear swingarm is really complicated. It has many bracing pieces of 20x20x1.6 SHS.

Well, it's been a while since the last update but this is a big one.

The two front swingarms I made were crap. The jig I made and used had the wrong angles, and the angles were different for each swingarm.

New front swingarms:

Rear swingarm (all bracing made out of 30x30x2.5 rather than 20x20x1.6 called for in plans)

The rear swingarm is REALLY heavy, so should stand up to a lot of normal use and abuse. Ran out of paint while doing the rear swingarm so just painted the welds and exposed metal to protect from rust.

I have gone to a few auctions and almost bought an '08 Hyosung GT-650r statutory write-off with only 1500km's on it. My limit was $1000, and that's what it sold for, but it wasn't my bid :mad2: I was kicking myself for ages afterward because I would have paid $1100 for it. Oh well.

Next auction is on the 11th and I'm hoping to get a Suzuki GS-500. Less power than the Hyosung, but the engines are very very reliable. (Actually, next auction is on the 2nd but the only semi-suitable engine is an Aprilia SL1000R V-twin. 140hp might be a bit overkill actually now that I think about it... maybe I could rig up something so it only goes half throttle.)
