Hi guys. I purchased a new predator 212212 for my sons go kart build and can't get it to run without the choke on slightly. I crank it let it warm up when I slowly turn the choke of it dies when 1/4 from being off. I can rev it up while choke is barley on just when it almost off it dies? I tried adjusting the idle no success. Any advice?

Usually means a fuel/air issue if it will run on choke and not off choke. Might need the carb adjusted.

Sounds like you could probably just get a new engine under warranty...

Did the engine have this problem from the very first start? Or only after you ran it for awhile?

Your carbs mounting nuts might just be loose. This would cause the carbs mounting gasket to leak/suck-in air.

Or its carb mounting gasket might have been installed upside down, causing it to leak no matter how tight those 2 nuts are.

Or your gas can might have had dirt/rust in it, that has now partially plugged up the carbs jets, passages and/or needle & seat valve.

You'll find lots more helpful info in this thread:--> http://www.diygokarts.com/vb/showthread.php?t=10957

Pop off the bowl, clean it out, then undo the main jet. It's up inside the same hole that the screw holding the bowl came from. Use a flat head screwdriver to unscrew the jet. Clean out the jet, make sure not one thing is in that tiny hole.

Probably will fix it up. Then, make sure to run a fuel filter at all times.

Let us know what happens.

Had a similar problem with my Briggs when I rebuilt the carb. It wouldn't run unless choked. So I assumed it wasn't getting enough fuel. I backed the jet setting screw out and pushed the choke back in to the off position and walah. Does it have a screw that you can adjust the fuel to the jet with?

Thanks for the help! Gonna try everything suggested that's simple. I would just return it but we live 2 hours from h.b sucks!!!! It looks to me the air filter nuts are the only way to tighten it down. There's not a separate mount just for carb. Try some tinkering and get back with all. Thanks again!

That may not be 100% true. As I stated, I couldn't get mine to run until I backed off the needle that was behind the jet. That let more fuel in so the jet could feed at full capacity I'm assuming. Then I was able to unchoke it and it runs great now and fires right up on the first pull.

I'd like to see your carb. I suspect yours is NOT a full-EPA lockdown deal. These carbs have NO adjustment available, outside idle RPM.

O that may be the case. This was on an ancient briggs. I had no knowledge of EPA carbs being that strict. Most of the ones on various motors I have dealt with have adjusters but then agin I ahvent worked on something that new per se.

I see... My statement was aimed directly at modern equipment. Nowadays, the EPA has determined that mere mortals are too dang stupid to adjust their own carbs, and locked the adjustments out. Therefore, altering the jet is the ONLY thing you can do to change fuel delivery. Naturally, I prefer pre-EPA carbs.

Gotcha! Good info, I did not know that. Thanks!
