Hi,
I sometimes have a lack of common sense.
I decided my 9 year old nokia brick had to be waterproof, so I used it in a shower LOL!
Turns out the poor bugger has a lack of keypad function now, and it probably needs a new chip. I can get a new phone of the same model on eBay for £5-£10, but I am one of those people who get bored of phones really quickly, and I also think that they should be indistructable ;). I like the "candy bar" type of phone best, and wanted a new phone either nokia or Sony ericsson for £20 or less(used like on eBay). If it had a camera, I would want a card slot and atleast 2mp, so I could take the card out and upload onto eBay or here :).
Any suggestions?
Rob

I have a 6230 Nokia (2004) has everything the modern phones have and is built like a brick, but is light. Bought at least 3 of them so far.

Hi,
I have to agree with you about the 6230. I had a 6230i as my first phone. I lobbed the poor thing at trees, and halfway across the school field on sports day, like a discus or something. Great little phone... But for some reason I felt the need to slap on a new case and sell it on eBay, and instead get a crappy lg slide :(.
I could get another, but I feel I would get bored of it.
I just had a quick look at Ip68 rated phones. These things can be submerged in 2m of water for 30 mins and are practically scratchproof! Shame they cost 200 quid and have minimal features.
I am considering getting maybe a samsung tough phone as o2 sell one for £20, and it has a camera and expandable memory. Only problem is that some slightly wierd kid in my class has it :(

Thanks.
I almost bought one of them about a year back, but then didn't. I bought a similar one but it was part of the nokia express music range.
I could get something like that.
Haha I dunno what my obsession with phones and water. I just guess I like the idea of having a submergible phone cos it is like contradicting (I think) but I don't know why i would need a submersible phone other that to go, " look guys im about to chuck my phone in a swimming pool" sorta thing. Except when i said "look guys I'm going to use my phone in a shower" it didn't go too well :(.
I also like the idea of a Sony ericcson cos i haven't owned one. I dislike of, motorola and samsung a bit, although the samsung tough phones seem ok.

A newer phone is going to be much more likely to break than your older one. If you want indestructible, you need a ruggedized Motorola, like a construction contractor might use.
The huge old-school Nextel two-way bricks used to be super tough, but pretty big. I'm sure there is a newer version that will work with your network, and be somewhat smaller.

(these things are like 2" thick)

I had a Sony Ericsson W580i. It wasn't military/contractor tough but I loved it. It was a sleek slide up phone with a camera and good features. I found it cheap on Ebay.

Hi,
It doesn't need to be that tough, and I am generally a fan of smaller phones.
I will check out the Sony ericcson, and might get one or a nokia brick again.
Thanks

Okay I attempted to fix it, by spraying wd40 onto the chip to drive out moisture (it said to do this on a forum, wd40 is non conductive) and it did nothing, so I tried heatin up the chip, and it ended up breaking the solder, bridging the contacts and pushing the chip off.
I have officially killed a nokia brick :'(
I now feel really bad (probably didn't help that the facia had a dinosaur :()
I need a phone asap, so I am going to go to O2 tomorrow and ask them what they have for under £20. I know they have some samsung bricks, which are ip54 or 57 which means they are water splash (54) and water submergable (57)
Thanks for the assistance :)
I hope they have something, and I am not prepared to spend a week looking for something on eBay and a week for the phone to come.
