Let's do some math:

Assuming new tires are $50 each. New chain maybe $20.

Plus shipping for parts you are already at $550+

The unknowns (some the owner may or may not know about)

What about the roll cage? Bearings? Frame? Clutch? Seat? Rust? Shocks? Brakes?

Chances are good that one or more items above need some work/ or replacement. Add $100 for that.

Are you willing to invest $600 plus your time to fix up the kart?
If so, are other comparable carts in good shape going for $600+?
(search in eBay, advanced settings, within 200 miles of your location, sold listings)

The answer to the question is completely up to you.

If you want to buy it, talk cash, and point out all of its problems and your newfound info from above, then make an offer on it.

thanks a lot guys. the Gentleman is willing to trade with me for something. So I don't think I would spend anything on it to purchase it but I am concerned that i have asked him about a roll cage and he hasn't answered that. I have looked at other go karts in my area and there really aren't many near me, not unless I am like you said willing to travel the 200 miles I might actually have to look into that if this guy falls through. I have also asked him for pictures and he said he is working.

one thing I just noticed and correct me if i'm wrong but the go kart has a blue greyhound engine I guess those are from harbor freight so does that mean that at some point in time they had to replace the engine. ??

no rollcage or seat belts

he is selling it for 300 but I wonder if its even worth that much. and is it supposed to be yellow and the red is rust? lol
so as far as i know its seat belt, rollcage, tires, chain, engine takes a while to warm up he said. "2 minutes to get up and go"

I decided to pass up on it. I found someone else who is selling another go-kart for 250 all it needs is a belt. but the rest of the body looks like its in good shape the tires look good unlike the other one and this one has seat belts.

by the way thanks a lot for all your help!!!!!
