Hello all, my name is John Palmer from central Louisiana. I have searched and searched for answers to help me on my project and spent some money trying to get my project up and running. So here I am, looking to you all for some guidance and knowledge. I have a yerfdog spiderbox, gy6 150cc go kart that I just can not get the wiring correct. I have bought a couple different kinds of harnesses and rigged them up according to diagrams that came with them. I no longer have the diagrams. After the install, the only way i could get the engine to start up was to use a screwdriver on the solenoid. I couldn't get the key ignition to start it or the start button to start it. I am really wanting to get this thing running properly so my kids can enjoy what i enjoyed growing up. I have watched several videos trying to figure out what i am doing wrong. The most recent video say i should wire from scratch. I just don't understand why I can't just simply install the harness I bought and it work fine.

Welcome. Is it possible you have a bad ignition switch or starter button? I have never had one of those buggies so I can’t advise you. Sorry.

The law of statistical average implies it would be so improbable to get both a bad push button start and key switch in the same go that it is in fact nearly impossible.

A bad starter solenoid isn't so far fetched, but I have only seen a handful or so that went bad in a way that bridging the lugs would still start the engine

I am a bit of a genius with the tedium of wiring woes.
It would take a lot of patience as well as Q&A, but I can probably help you better than most... I've made many custom harness and subharnesses for various engine having projects.

Those whom have told you strip it bare and start over at all source connections are correct in the aspect of sometimes that's the only option that works to get your head off the wall and get things right.

It is just frustrating, especially after buying new harnesses that come with the new hardware. I don't assume they would be bad or not functioning correctly. I have found a schematic online for this engine type and will be rewiring from scratch. I never knew the tedious nature of the wiring circuit, and I have to say, this project is humbling me.

Your best bet is to run your wiring on the machine and tag wires at the connectors with masking tape and a pen.
After a think on it, I'm betting your issue is likely as simple as rearranged pins in a connector if it isn't just a fretted wire inside the insulation. Those harnesses tend to use super light gauge wire (like 22)

It only takes one year difference between the right years for the connectors to be the same with the pins in them going to different things than before

Same thing happened to my darn mower. Wiring got too close to the header and fried everything and melted a connector. It wouldn't make a sound but would run after bridging the solenoid. Every wire has to be retraced and check for burning. Make sure the ground wire isn't fried too. It's a pain but likely an inexpensive fix.

Considering a solenoid was mentioned, that's a very basic independent circuit (only common component to any other electrical is the keyswitch)

The most common configuration is a constant source from the battery to a main lug, solenoid is contact grounded to the starter body (chassis on older systems) and a 12v trigger wire dropped from the starting pole of the keyswitch to a blade terminal on most (4 or 5mm threaded post on a few others)

The starting circuit of any machine by itself is about as idiot proof as tossing a couple batteries in a flashlight

Can you tell me where I put the injector cooling fan for my 300? Took it off, put it somewhere I KNEW I would remember, then forgot where I put it.

Years ago as a new line cook i had a waitress tell me the customer wanted milk toast. I said what? How do you make that? She went and asked. Came back and told me to take a slice of bread, dip it in milk and grill it on the flat iron like French toast. I said they dont want French toast? The egg is what binds it all together. I didn't believe her so i went out to the table and had to ask for myself. I got the same recipe. I had a confused look on my face for sure. I said I've never done that before and I dont know how it will come out but I'll give it a shot.
Yup, soggy bread.
I never heard from the customer or the waitress.
Im still not sure if I got played or not.
