Same with mine. You can clean a comet to nearly brand new if you have a little bit of patience and basic cleaning supplies. Helps if you have a second small engine with a 5/8" shaft for cleaning the driven pulley. That's what I did, with a Predator 79. WD40, Brake clean, brass brush and steel wool was plenty. Don't recommend using steel wool though, nearly killed me, twice.

Also make sure to have 3in1 oil to line the moving parts and spray Dry Lube for the inside of the T/C though oil will work in a pinch if you don't plan on sand or offroading.

Latest Update: I spent the day yesterday with my son replacing the engine and torque converter. This was good learning experience for him.

I decided to get a new TC because I just like new things With some small adjustments and tweaks we changed engine, torque converter, fixed wheel alignment, fixed latch on the sliding seat and washed it up. Probably wait on tires because they are not cheap.

Wow, what a difference! Started on 2nd pull and it runs nice and it is fast! Actually too fast. I had to turn it down or else it would be bad. My daughter said she almost bounced/fell out of it, whoops. Without the roll cage on, I am able to get in it, legs bent of course, and I was doing donuts/drifting in the back yard lol.

Nice little kart now. I may start doing little upgrades, but now it runs when required and kids are happy. Thanks to everyone for all the info and help.

Beautiful. Now teach your kids to do a 670 swap in that kart . They did a very nice job. I know the first time I rode a P212 w/ a T/C I was scared out of my shoes how fast it was, so limiting it for your kids is quite justified .
