Hi all,
I'm a father of 2 that has just bought an old kart to rebuild for my kids to use. My daughter is 6 and has expressed a lot of interest in a kart, so I thought it would be a good project for us to do together.
I just bought a 2 seater on Craigslist that isn't running. I liked this model because it not only seats 2 but it has the small cage over it. The engine looks pretty banged up, and it sat outside for some time with the carb open (and therefore letting water come in). I'm going to try to drain/clean/flush everything and see if I have a usable motor or not. If not I hope to scavenge a very inexpensive powerplant to run this monster.
We will do a mechanical restoration and then move on to cosmetics. I'm hoping it's something we can use for several years as my little guy is 1 now. At a minimum it's a fun, very inexpensive project we can work on together. If the 6 year old takes to it, we may see fit to invest in a small race kart for her to try out.
I promise to read the posts already here and to ask a minimum of dumb questions that have been addressed in the past. I thank everybody in advance for any information you may provide.
The folks I bought it from are dropping it off at my house this coming week, and then I will put up some pictures of what we are starting with.
Have a good day!
Mike
