I have acquired a go kart for free, needs some work, I believe it is a carter bros 2335 by searching for manuals. There is no markings on it. Im in the early stages and have stripped it down, i believe it has the 20 series torque converter, and would like to install the 30 series as it is more common i believe. Im unsure what to get and belts. Right now it has the driven pully at 7 inches on the jackshaft. Im replacing the 48t sprocket on the wheel along with a new 40 chain. Another thing im having issues with is a seat. It looks as the seat width is 24" and everything i find is bigger. My 7 year old daughter and I are planning to do the resto and hoping to teach her some things in the process. If anyone can point me in the direction or have done a kart similar I need some ideas, thanks again all.

Keep the 20 if it is. The belt is symmetrical on both sides. They are a good setup and easily serviceable. GoKart Supply has all the belts and rebuild parts available. Max Torque still makes them! Besides all the hard work has been done for you and you have the expensive parts! Why reinvent the wheel? The only reason 30 series TAV II came out was for the new larger mini-bikes and avoid having to use a heavier and more expensive jackshaft set up.

Max Torque or Comet brand belts. I have also heard the Gates Kevlar ones are good too. No Chinese or cheap belts. If there are numbers on it cross reference with the recommended brand belts. If not go to GoKart Supply website and look up the 20 series and how to measure tutorial. You will learn a lot in their parts section and easy to understand with drawings. Hope I helped!

Agreed, the 30 series uses asymmetrical belts and pulleys, which have limitations on down the road that symmetrical belts and pulleys don't.

I got an idea that works.
Drive down roads or alleys looking for someone throwing out an old couch and steal the cushions. Take them to a coin op laundry and wash and dry them. You don’t really want to bring any unwanted friends home. Unzip and throw away the covers, keep the foam. Get a sheet of “marine grade plywood” at least 1/2” thick but 3/4 is better. Cut out your seat bottom and back to fit your kart. Go to Joanne Fabrics and buy some “Rich Corinthian Leather” or go out and get some Naugahyde or something you like off the World Wide Web. Cut the foam to fit the plywood with a Stanley razor knife, overlapping by about an inch on all sides. Lay your vinyl down lay the foam on top and the wood next. Then break out the old Arrow staple gun and staple the fabric to the wood covering the foam about every 1/2”. Work your way around keeping the fabric tight. If you or the wife can sew you can get fancy. When done use at least 3/4” lag screws to secure to kart. Just don’t use too long of a screw to spear your but over bumps! One more thing fold the fabric nicely in the corners. Another thing round the edges of the wood so it doesn’t slice through the fabric. Oh, and another thing don’t use a porous fabric that will absorb water when washing off kart after playing. Your friends WILL make fun of you after you get a wet but!
