New Kt196 help?

Ok so let me walk you through a quick story. My son’s kt196 was terribly under powered. He’s only 60lbs so the idea of the load being too heavy is out of the question. He was climbing a hill when the kart started to smoke from the belt housing. Alas, I found a new clutch and 3 belt set for 25$ so I grabbed it and installed it. While I was at it, I threw on a new pipe, intake, and carb jet as well as the governor modification. The cart would still struggle and wouldn’t roll. I bled the rear brake and discovered that the brake was binding. So that’s fixed.

The cart now screams even with my chunky butt driving it.

HOWEVER…now I’ve run into another issue. When heavily applying the throttle, I hear a loud “KA-CHUNK” like a chain slipping.

I checked the chains, the chain driving the axle needed tightening, so I adjusted it. But the chain coming from the torque converter has about 1.5-1”of slop but everything looks like it’s welded together. is this normal or Can I tighten this chain?

A slipping belt is normal to a small extent. You should look at putting a Genuine Comet belt on it though they work and last much better. Is there any way to shorten the chain by using a 1/2 link or other method slide the engine forward to tighten the chain?

I got my grandson a KT196 for Christmas and it makes a very loud bang sound when he floors it from a dead stop. And I mean loud.

Looks like the jackshaft driver sprocket, ( the small sprocket), in photo #3, is missing some teeth. Looks to not be adjustable from torque converter. Look at page 30 of your manual maybe? https://media.tractorsupply.com/is/...mpany/tsc/product/1/25/75/64/1257564_Man1.pdf

Yea, I'd say sprocket also. I don't know these things are under powered though. I'm 235 lbs and my grandson's has no problem carrying my fat butt around at a pretty good clip. I haven't tried really steep hills with it, but it doesn't have a problem with moderately steep hills with me in it. He's about 70 lbs and with us both in it the thing will still get you in trouble if you're careless with it. I was surprised at how quick it is for a lower end kart.
