Hey guys-new here. I aquired a single seater go kart for my kids, and I. It has a Briggs 5 HP, 1" live axle, 5/8" front spindles, 13"x6" tires. I would like to rebuild the engine, pep it up, and upgrade clutch,sprocket,spindles....... Any suggestions would be appreciated.... I'm not looking to go all out $ wise, but would like to make better spending fairly reasonable money.

Disable the governor and replace the exhaust with a piece of water pipe(screws in). this will make a 30mph kart do 35 and give you more power. flathead aren't a very good build choice anymore. If you arent happy with the above setup I can show you how to build a BRAND NEW 5500 RPM OHV racing motor for $250 that will drop in where your flathead is, you would pay that much just for a high speed flathead flywheeel and con rod.

You dont upgrade spindles, just replace if loose, I suppose you could make bearing spindles. Plain old chepo cent clutch will be fine up to a mild racing engine.

im interested in the $250 engine build!! Pm me please

1 Go to Harbor freight on sale day buy 6.5hp OHV engine for $100
2 Buy ARC Billet flywheel $105
3 Buy a air filter kit stock one sucks. $30
4 Install flywheel USE A TORQUE WRENCH!!!!
5 Disable gov/setup throttle linkage using this video.http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-8437175947289672519&hl=en
You can spend another $50 for a header pipe or gut the stock muffler.

You may need to file out the stock jet slightly as the filter and exhaust mods need more fuel.
