Okay here I go embarking on another adventure..... well after doing alot of looking and lurking....shaking down of 2 steam fitters and 1 iron worker for some material I am now ready to start playing again.
a little description of what it should be when we finish would be:
An on road (pavement) crusier. We were not looking for something super fast for this build but more of a different then the normal go kart. we finally decided on a roadster type cart.
the sub-frame is heavy wall 1"od pipe. slightly tapered by 2 inches front to back. The upper frame and members will e constructed out of 1"od mild (.083) they will make up the seat frame, cockpit, front grill area, roll bar and rub rails & all notching will be hand coped with a 4.5" grinder and the entire frame will be welded using stick (arc)
were shooting for a live axle and have not yet decided on the power plant as we need to get a weight on the frame first. I can honestly say that I do not think an 8hp will get this thing moving.....contemplating an 11hp briggs and stratton.
the finished dimensions will be 72"l x 26"w(@ rear) to 24"w (@front bumper) I know its a bit big. Like I said were looking for different versus speed and plain jane....I got more then enough steel to build 3 more....guys it pays to be the GC on a multi million dollar job....huh...????
the first pics are of the rough cut frame un-welded and refined....the 3rd pic is what I would like to have our kart look like when complete basically or at least a close rendition of it. I know it will not be identical and may even changer completely but that is the body line i am looking at in kart size of coarse not full size car.
thanks for all the great ideas and information...looking forward to getting this build rolling towards something that resembles a kart....
thanks again
anthony
