looks margay, with a briggs flathead. take a pic of the very front of the block, right next to the shroud. It may be a raptor

you have a 5hp briggs raptor, this is i beleive a margay frame, my neighbor had the same. Thesse were apparently for kt100 racing but my neighbor had the same engine on his. beware that engine is a powerhouse and it can do some crazy things. by not stock you can see theres a filter and header. he probablly removed the governor and did some inside work

Better wait till the engine guy chime in about the oil.

Can you make a vid of it running?

I find karts like this with no engine a needing lots of work for $300. Your needs nothing and came with a raptor? You shopped well friend.

I would guess the real value is what make and model your frame is.

You did not buy that. YOU STOLE IT BIGTIME. IMO

Take care of man. Don't trash it. And keep your friends off it.

See of you can race in a vintage class? Or a class that fits your kart.

yeah deff taking good care of it and deff no free rides lol as this is my new found hobby

I'd suggest you start by asking the seller what brand/weight of oil is in your engine now. Some of the specialty kart racing oils brands have additives that dont mix well with other brands. Even after you drain the old oil, some of the residue will remain and this can sometimes cause problems when switching to other brands.

If he'd just previously used oil made for cars, (synthetic or petroleum based) there probably wouldnt be any problem switching to most any other brand of automotive oil. But if he used one of the special kart racing brands, you'd want to either stay with that same brand, or flush your engine out with mineral spirits before changing to another brand.

Guys that race engines like yours (w/15-degree motormounts) typically used 14 ounces of oil. You'll just need to use a measuring cup to get the right amount. (You could use 16-ounces if you want, but it'll probably puke those extra 2 ounces out your breather at high rpm)

I use/recommend strait 30 weight Redline brand, synthetic racing oil in my racekart engine. I buy it from a local automotive speed shop, but you could find it online too.

Are you running gasoline or Methanol in your engine?

I've been trying to help you figure out what brand your kart is, I've posted your pics on a kart racers forum. We're still not sure what it is, but you can check out the thread here: http://karting.4cycle.com/showthread.php?p=4125280#post4125280
