By the picture I can see your wheels turn, so is the problem you're having with understeer? (skidding straight after the wheels turn)

Not trying to throw out the ackerman and toe-in/out idea out but it might actually be the power:weight ratio. This kart looks like it weighs maybe 70lbs. With all that power and the diameter of the front tires, it could actually taking a lot of the weight off of the front and inertia is pushing it forward. Without the weight in the front, then theres no way to dirrect the wheels because they are not being forced enough to connect fully to the ground. Try sliding up in the seat, go slower, and turn and see what that does for you.

Just looking at the second pic you posted of the front of the kart, it looks like the wheel that would be on the inside of the turn is not turning enough. When you turn, the inside wheel should actually turn more than the outside wheel to compensate for the smaller radius that it will turn through.

Post some more pics of the front of your kart, turning the wheels each way. Also post a pic of the tierods, as well as the wheel spindles. This will give us some idea of what is wrong with your steering geometry.

I second that it is probably the power/weight ratio...I had a kart similar to this one and had the same problem...ended up moving the seat forward a few inches and that solved the problem...or I guess you could add something for a little weight in the front :p

that's an azusa kart. but with upgraded brakes. ( disc instead of drum) those tend to push a bit no matter what i tried with mine. ( the spindle design ...and the whole kart frame design is very basic and i think was designed in the 60's) the second one i built, i actually stretched the frame 10 inches and wow...what a difference ! the longer kart steered way better than the shorter one !

To me it still looks like the right hand wheel is turning more than the left when you turn to the left. That will mean that the right wheel will bump over the ground in the turn.

It looks like you are able to adjust the tierods. I am not a steering guy, so I am not too sure what to suggest about the adjustment of the tierods.

Wait for one of the more experienced guys to see this thread an give you better advice. If they don't, PM Toystory. He seems to be a good steering guy

ideally you would want the inside tire to turn a little bit more than the outside tire ( i think)
also you have much larger tires on the rear ( 2 large tires pushing you forward) and smaller tires on the front. maybe try putting the same size tires ( or at least bigger than those) on the front?? i had 16" tires on all 4 on my kart ( same azusa frame) and it did help. note...... i did have to cut the spindles off and weld on longer ones to get the front wheels far enough out to not hit the frame when at full lock. there are some pics of it on my blog page. kart is bright green.
the same kart with the stretched frame turned much better ( even with the smaller wheels on the front)

Bump

Did you get anything sorted? Not many suggestions on what's wrong but, IMO, your problem is probably that the steering is not setup using the Ackermann principle.

If you are truly getting under-steer and your front tires are breaking free instead of steering, I would also (like Spyder) suggest bigger tires on the front, or adding some weight to the front of the kart.... or adding caster-angle in some way... maybe by re-welding the spindle tubes at an angle relative to the front axle.
