Hey guys, the name is Justin. New here to this Forum but I've had a few Go-Karts in the past when I was younger (I was under 18). Well, a buddy of mine recently bought a go-kart and one time down the street on it and I was instantly hooked again and had to have one lol. Soooo, I just bought this today off an ad on Craigslist. By coinsodence, it's the same frame as one I had when I was younger only mine old one was a single seater. It's a very solid and straight to the point frame and my favorite parts are that it's super light and live axle :cornut:
Anyway, it has a 3.5hp Briggs on it at the moment and the guy clocked it with a radar gun at 22mph. So when I got home, I did the "ol reach around" and pulled the butterfly fully open. I dunno if this is normal but that little motor MOVES and surprised the **** outta me haha. Anyway, here she is!

Welcome to the forum! Nice base kart to start with. I suspect that 3.5 Briggs has been modified slightly. I don't know whether you defeated the governor or your throttle linkage is just not set correctly. ...I suspect that it is the latter. ..

Thanks for the kind words guys!
Poboy, it's a 3.5 I/C motor. To be honest, I haven't really taken a close look at the engine yet but it seemed all stock to me. The governor is still all intact and works as it should. Stops revving up at the factory 3600rpm limit. All I did was reach around and stick my finger under the filter and manually turn the butterfly at full open. I know the consequences of doing this often, so I won't be doing it again until I can take all of that stuff out of the engine.
It just surprised the **** out of me that the little motor can actually go that fast lol.

Also, does anyone here know the make of my frame? I'm assuming it's pretty common because again, I had a single seater same make and a friend of mine had a 2 seater, same make when we were kids..
From what I gather, it sort of looks like a old Carter Brothers Kart? There's no stickers or markings anywhere (that I've seen) that can help me figure this out..

Welcome to the forum. Please note the Edit button in the lower right corner of your posts ;)

IIRC, 3.5hp B&S engines use a vane governor (as opposed to internal gear gov) which is easily over-ridden by simply opening the throttle butterfly; that's probably what you did on the reach-around...

Haha, sorry about that. I fixed it now:thumbsup:

Thanks for that info on the engine, that's exactly what I did by reaching around. I'll do some more research on it and check it out real good before cracking it open.
Any ideas on the frames make? If I recall from when I was younger, the brand of it had some kind of streaks with a star at the end of them for the logo if that sounds familiar?

Thanks!

Looks like a Carter to me.....has all the right earmarks that satisfy my limited knowledge. .....

As far as the the slight modifications. .....you couldn't see them from the outside.....and I have my reasons.....I wouldn't bet on them. ...but the odds are just a hair better than 50/50........

Thanks man! Reason I ask is because I want to source an oem seat cover for it. That fat cushion feels good, not gonna lie. But I just hate how it looks haha.

Can't wait to repaint the whole thing and freshen everything up. I have big plans for this thing =D

Yea, no luck on eBay either. Not so sure it's a Carter Brothers frame anymore either. I haven't seen any Carter's with the logo I described before. I know it's a fairly common frame though. Someone on here MUST know what it is lol. Just need someone that knows to see this post haha.

*EDIT**
I was watching a video in YouTube of a couple guys messing around on a go kart and it happens to be the same maker of mine!! Unfortunately, the name is rubbed off leaving only the logo left. Anyone know what the brand is?! I took a screenshot of it..

Thanks guys!

Well if you really had that exact same decal..

then it is FOR SURE a Carter Bros Super Wheels

PICT0004.jpg

but it might be a Ken Bar as well (if you didn't have that decal and just assume you had it)

Thank you so much man!!! Yes I'm 100% positive it did have that decal. I literally had the exact same frame when I was younger and it had the decal still on it. I bought this one not long ago and the decal was gone but I remembered what it looked like. As a kid, I never paid attention to the name lol.
Thanks a million again man, I was breaking my head over this! Lol
