I think your pics are upside down! Welcome to the forum...I do hope though, you put more effort and attention to detail in your build than you do your posts.

Yea I'm alot better with my hands and welding then I am online

Yeah I used to be too...then I joined this Forum... and now I spend more time here than my shop! LOL

Seriously though. As far as a torque converter and a jack shaft. You need a Centrifugal clutch or a torque converter to act as a tranny and get the power from the engine to the axle. A torque converter does usually incorporate a jackshaft. But you cant just have a jackshaft.

Our member Kartfab has a website about how to build a go kart, He has some great info and videos there. May be worth checking out when you have a few minutes.

Thanks i understand both and me and the boys have had clutches and a tourqe converter but it seems to me i could get the same torque and not sacrifice all my top end by using a jack shaft but i do learn everything by trial and error besides a jack shaft is the best way i can think to hook up two motors and i just would really enjoy building one

There was a guy that made a rack and pinion with a chain and sprocket....pretty cool outside of the box deal....I can't post links to save my life with this phone...but maybe someone will pull up that thread.

Welcome to the forum. It looks like the build is coming along well. Just remember that steering from a lawn mower is not designed to go faster than a few miles an hour. Post some pics of it before you incorporate it so we can give you some advice

I have built my own complete steering system before. All DIY. I had a kart to copy but also I mainly used the plan shown on DIY GO KARTS. The how to plans page not the forum.
It is far from Rack and Pinion but it is close to what most of us are used to on a simple yard kart, and Kart Fab . com . Just some thing more to consider.

I wouldnt mind using that kind of steering but i have 15 inch turff savers on 6 inch rims and they don't want to turn on the other karts and i have made up spacers so they clear the frame

I figure the lawn mower steering is used too turning those tiers
