Hello Everyone,
I haven't purchased a go Kart yet, but I am in the market for one. I wanted to source some information based off my intentions so that I am a little more educated going into this project. So all I am looking for is a standard go kart that can be rode on the street, yard, or maybe even a trail. What kind of things should I be looking for on a go kart purchased from a private owner? Is there any holy grail items so to speak to keep an eye out for, or specific parts that I may want to be mindful of. I'm not looking to spend to much just some old junky frame sitting in someone's yard that I can take and put my own spin on. I want it to be fast and versatile. Thanks much and I look forward to hearing yalls recommendations.

That device will allow you to tackle off road environments better than a simple centrifugal clutch. Any particular style of kart you're looking for?

Integrity of the frame is important, no bends, no cracks, check all the welds. What is the existing braking system? Could be anywhere from no brakes to scrub brakes to drums to discs (worst to best). Condition of tires/wheels could result in minor expense to replace (just tires) or major, i.e. needs new wheels, hubs, bearings etc. Is there an engine? 19th century Tecumseh probably means replacement, 21st century Honda means jackpot. The rest is largely cosmetic or easy/cheap to source/repair/replace.

Thanks everyone. Sorry its been so long since I have been on here. I've been traveling for work and then went through some surgery etc etc. But I am back now and ready to woop it on.

*Hellion, pleasure to meet you. Not much about me. I'm 33 years old have two kids one in high school one in middle, married, and an active duty Marine. I do love tinkering and trying to figure out how stuff works and why. Biggest project I have done and is still ongoing is a frame off on a 74 Bronco.

So in my time away I was able to acquire two Karts. right now I am working on them and have a deadline of Christmas. I plan on giving them to the kids as a gift.

*panhead, thanks for the response. Not to concerned with troll factor. It's almost inevitable to run into them just about anywhere now a days. I try to just let it roll off the back. You would think admin would do something about them though.

Being a Marine, I'm sure he's plenty tough, can take care of himself and furthermore doesn't need your coddling and motherliness.

*OzFab: Wasn't trying to wrinkle any feathers or call anyone out. Just shootin the **** is all. Not to sure on what the current policies are for the site and how many admin users there currently are but my recommendations are simple (if not already in effect). Plus up the amount of admin users, which will allow more coverage of posts and threads to be scanned for any unreported BS. Another thought would just to implement the three strike rule. Any member that has been reported for such behavior or has been caught doing so by an admin user would have their account revoked indefinitely. Again I don't know what your currently policies and actions are these are just some ideas that come to mind.
