Dude if you have a 5hp briggs on there now, unless it is completely blown with a busted block, you would be down grading if you put a 6.5 clone in there. do a search for raptor engines there ate tons of mods and high performance parts for the old flat heads they are far better of an engine than a new overhead valve engines. if you still got your heart set on going that rout I have a new 6.5 clone I'd do an even trade for, but IMO I'd be taking advantage of you.

With that much weight you should probably consider going with an engine in the 13 to 20hp range. If your into racing rc cars you'll probably just get bored with a 6.5hp engine, It wouldnt be much better than your old one.

Installing a motorcycle engine would be an even better option, although its a lot more work.

Yeah they are 6.5 clone engines that are used in the BSP (box stock project) Jr. race karts they are decent engines really not much different than your standard clone except built and designed for kart racing. if built right can pump out as much as 16hp.

Here's a pretty decent deal on a 16hp with electric start, a charging coil to run lights and free shipping:

Yeah, you could buy or build one of those 196cc.Dupor/clone race engines, but that big 420cc engine would still have about 2 to 3 times as much torque to get all the weight in your kart moving a whole lot better.

The drawbacks to these larger engines is they have a 1" diameter output shaft, and the higher quality clutches or Torque Converters they need cost a lot more than the 3/4"-bore equivalents made for little 6.5hp engines.

You'd also have to mod or install a new motor mounting plate because they have a larger bolt pattern. Depending on your kart, you might also need to brace/gusset the frame to handle the extra power and weight.

Also you can believe me when I say this, those larger engines take up allot of room, and in most cases they have a larger footprint on the mounting base which means you'll have to fab a new motor mount plate, and shift it to the right.
and it will defiantly change your center of gravity especially on smaller lighter carts.

You both are to big to ride togather on the kart. For any speed and fun that is. One adult and one kid. 110 is a small adult really. If you ride it single the kart should rip pretty good.

What is it doing now? Perhaps you can do a gear change to get some more torque. Is it just sluggish now? How does it ride with just you?

Gear change may solve your problem. What kind of clutch do you have?
