I'm new here, and new to go kart building. I've been looking around the site, and I think I've found the right place for the information I'll need!

I'm currently planning my first build, but I'm really not sure what parts I'm going to need. It's going to be a 24V setup with a live axle, with the whole thing being assembled from scratch. I figured that I would do better to find people with the knowledge, rather than stumble through the project by trial and error.

Welcome to the forum! Yep! You found the right place! itsid is our resident expert on electric projects....(although I'm sure there are others.)

He's in Germany, so he's probably sleeping while we're awake...(sometimes! )

Please consider entering your build in this years build off contest.
It does not matter it is your first build. The contest runs now through December.
So far there are only 2 builders, You could be the third!

I'm in the Utica/Rome area.

As far as the build-off, I'm not sure if I'll get that far by December. Depends on parts cost, making things fit, and finding the time around family life to get everything assembled. I'm also making a fiberglass body, which is taking much longer that I originally anticipated.

I'm interested in making a Fiberglas body too... Can you post some pics of your process?

I don't have good pics showing the process, but this guy's site shows the same method I used--with photos to prove the end result isn't junk:

I used cardboard to build the body, and then laid epoxy and three layers of thin fiberglass cloth over it. The biggest pain is having to glass around all sides and edges. Good luck with yours!
