Hey Everyone! My name is Jared, coming to you from the beautiful state of Ohio. One of my coworkers gifted me an old Kart that he had acquired some time ago that has been sitting outside getting rusty on is property. It's a unique kart as the front steering/ axle assembly was borrowed from what looks like an old Cub Cadet narrow frame lawn tractor. It came with a Briggs 10hp engine, but the crankshaft is all chewed up so I acquired a Honda GX390 13hp engine out of an old Miller Bluestar generator. I have gotten the frame stripped and am in the process of determining what needs to be replaced and reconditioning the parts that are still usable. Check out what she looked like before disassembly!

Those front wheels appear to be the dreaded and feared $4.99 "Harbor Freight" wheels, notorious for being crap.

Welcome to the forum! I am also in Ohio and joined recently as well. The world can never have too many Buckeyes. :)

Looks like a fun project, good luck!

PS - If you need a set of wheels, I have a set of AZUSA 5" wheels collecting dust on my workbench. 3" wide front, 4" wide rear. 5/8" bearings. Was going to use them on my son's kart but we went in another direction.

Thank you Mike! I may be interested in the Azusa wheels, but right now my focus is simply to getting it back to operational. If I were to take you up on that what would you like to get for them?

Ok Welcome.
Now check the Crank shaft usually Generators have a Tapered shaft. Not usable for a go kart.
and a 10 or 13 HP Kart with a Lawn mower front end sounds sketchy.
But you do have a nice start there.

The motor does have a tapered shaft, but luckily 1" keyed crankshafts are available for between $55 and $70. I will likely re-configure the front end, as well as the brake assembly, and the clutch (I will probably upgrade to torque converter later but like I said right now I am just getting everything cleaned up, refinished and evaluated to get it running). It would probably be cheaper to buy a used kart that is in better condition but I want to get the experience of fixing this one and making it mine.

That's probably the stoutest kart design I've ever seen. Massively overbuilt but you could capitalize on that by adding some wider, maybe slightly taller wheels to make it look less like a body builder with undeveloped legs.

Just think of all the kinetic energy that thing has once it gets rolling. The bumper was a good idea...
Ramming speed!
