I'll spare everyone the long introduction and just hit the main points.

-Working on a Yerf Dog 3203.
-First go kart I've ever owned.
-I bought it for my son and have since replaced many parts.
-Parts list includes: New HF engine and 100% new rear axle assembly (axle, sprokets, converter, chain, bearings, etc.)

-Problem:
I ordered the 6" brake drum to replace the one on the old axle. I ordered directly by part number only to realize that my kart is the 4" drum version and I receieved the 6" drum. Seeing this as a chance to upgrade to a larger drum, I ordered the 6" band to go with it. Now I am having trouble bolting it on.

-Question:
Is it possible to simple bolt on the 6" brake drum/band on a kart originally installed with a 4" brake drum/band or will fabrication be necessary. As I see it, I will have to fabricate two brackets OR return the parts and order something else.

a little fabbing will most likely be needed.

post some detailed non-fuzzy pics, and we'll do our best to help you.

personally i would have opted for a disc brake with hydraulic caliper, which a lot of those yerf dogs came with. but it sounds like you're not too confident yet with your fabbing skils, so a small change is probably better than a significant change. i kinda went from messing with little kiddie karts to building 80hp mini dune buggies from scratch practically overnight. lol.

oh and hi, welcome to the forum. :)

edit your profile to show your location. us kart-heads like to know where we all are from. lol.

I believe a lot of the Yerf Dogs came with a mechanical, not a hydraulic, disc and caliper setup. I did not see the point in converting for a kart that will rarely see higher than 25mph.

Also, the question was more of a "Is fabrication necessary?" Not, "I don't know what I'm doing...help!" Fabrication is not a problem, so I'm not sure what led you to believe that I am "not too confident yet with [my] fabbing skills." I was more interested in whether I was missing something obvious, or if someone knew if the 6" setup could be directly bolted to a 4" cart.
