Hey guys, I've been toying around with the idea of building a vintage cart with two McCullough 250 motors from a couple chainsaws I have. I'd like to keep simple and clean. I want it to be two stroke powered if I don't go the route of the Mac motors. I have alot of fabrication experience and have a bit of equipment to pull this off, just not really sure where to start with the design of things so that's how I found this place. Looks like a cool place to look around so if you have any advice feel free to tell. I've been building chainsaw parts of late for some guys that get into racing, I've done a little myself but I find more fun in building components for them than I do running them myself. Here is a project I just did for a guy he wanted a expansion chamber for a 390 Husqvarna.

Here is the flat patterns.

Cones.

Header and divergent cones.

Header flange.

Making and adjustable belly section for easy tuning.

Finishing the flange on the mill.

Clamp for adjustable belly.

Finished.

Welcome to the forum! Hey, are you into that super-freaky hotrod chainsaw stuff? Amazing!

Those McCullough engines you want to use- what is the displacement, and what kind of horsepower and RPM can you reasonably expect out of them?

I look forward to your project.

Yeah, I've been playing around with that stuff for the past couple years. Been really getting into building the pipes. I have a little Husky 50 that runs on alky/nitro and will cut a 8x8 piece of poplar in just over a second. I make the head and a custom intake with a Tilly HL on it drilled to run the Alky/nitro. I put in the external boost ports to make it a 4 transfer port motor. I have friend that can really make these things scream! I just enjoy making the parts more than anything.

Here is the back view with the tilly.

Added boost ports.

Here is the motors I have, they are exactly 80cc and turn up to 6000K, I think with some porting and pipes along with alky I can get them to spin harder than that.

Welcome to the forum

If you don't mind me asking......why would people want expansion chambers like that on chainsaws. I think it looks pretty cool, but was just wondering. Is it just to cut faster

Yes it is for speed in the cut, these are for competition saws that for time. Typically 3 cut in a controlled pieces of wood i.e... 8x8-10x10 poplar, white pine. I good workign pipe will net a 30-40% increase in speed on the stop watch.
