new guy here w/ pics and questions

hey guys. I picked this kart up from a buddy of mine for free and have been slacking in putting it back together. I have finally mustered up the interest to finish it but have run into some snags.

problems:

1. i went to Northern tool and their karting section is very "special" to say the least. I picked up a chain, clutch, and sprocket but the sprocket will not work. The clutch fits on the shaft fine but there is way too much space between the end of the shaft and the body of the motor. Not exactly sure how that is going to work.

2. I have no idea what size sprocket to use. I would make good use of a stores return policy on this but I would have to order online since there are no karting sources here in Charleston, SC so I have to be right the first time.

I'll help you figure this out, but first I need to know what clutch model you bought from northern.

Which one do you have?


Also, when you slide your clutch all the way on, measure and post how much of the output shaft sticks out past the clutch.


PS: you've got your motor mount bolted on backwards. It should tilt the engine to be taller in the back...

thanks for the response sir! Ill have to go check out the package when I get home from work tonight. I know it is a Hilliard extreme but dont know which tooth gear it has. Thanks for the heads up on the motor mount too I had no clue. hahaha.

now when I got it I was to dim to realize that this was not a straight frame (sprint) kart. I was just gonna get it put together and see how much fun I could have with it before I decided to find another frame.

What's wrong with the sprocket you bought?

its a one piece which does not line up with the bolts and the center hole is too small.
