Hi all,
I've been lurking around a bit and looking for info. I have a dingo that I've had for nearly 20 years that's been sitting in my parents shed. I recently moved back to PA and before that I've been starting to get an itch for hopping up the go kart. About a week ago or so I pulled it out of the shed and tried to start it up only to snap the pull starter cord, went and picked up a replacement from the local lawn mower store and the same place we bought the kart from in '94. I pulled the side cover off the engine and low and behold a mouse's nest behind it with the spark plug wire chewed through completely and a couple other wires that go from the magneto. The cover was also rusted through on the bottom, guess from the mouse pee. open to ideas and resources (links). I was dreaming about putting a 13hp predator in there and hopping that up a bit but might be more than I'm looking to bargain for right now.

Welcome to the forum!!

What type of engine do you have on there now? IMO I would just repair what you have and use it as it is. You are definately going to have to clean the carb. It is not that hard, and when we know what engine you have we can help you do that (with links).

I would also not go to 13HP unless you have loads of money to spend. You are going to have to first of all buy the engine, fabricate a new engine mount because the footprint will more than likely be different to what you have now. You will then have to buy a Comet 40 series torque converter, because a 30 Series is only rated up to 8HP, and cannot be used for higher. They cost around $300 (or more). A centrifugal clutch for a 13HP engine would also run you over $100. You would probably have to brace the frame a bit too to handle that power.

I would just fix what you have.

Post some pics of what you have so that we can help you out a bit more

it's got the 5hp briggs and stratton engine that came with it from the factory (flat head?). Engine model is 1352.12.

I'll try to get some pics up today.

Stopped by the lawn mower shop to pay them the dollar I owed them for the cord and he asked if the cord worked and I told him about the wire. They had a coil for my engine so I bought it. When I get home I'm hoping to replace both the coil and the cord and prolly the oil and see if I can get it started.

Be sure to thoroughly clean out the fuel tank too...

That type of engine has a fuel pump built into the carb; having sat for so long, it's extremely possible the diaphram has deteriorated so, it won't send fuel to the carb. Who knows, you may get lucky but, keep it in mind...

When you try to start it, remove the air filter & see if the primer bulb is working; if it doesn't have a primer bulb, pour a small amount of fuel into the carb...

Bought a new coil and pull start rope, the coil came with the wires for the switch which was nice. Installed the parts and still no start, got more investigating to do but things are moving slow because I'm also working on my car which takes higher priority. But I picked up 2 B&S 5hp motors at an auction on Saturday. For the price it was less than the new coil that I bought for my engine so I figure some spare parts and possibly one that I can build up for performance. One is seized up though.
