Just getting into building clone and Predator engines. I am in a league in it's first year racing Caged Go Karts. We can use the clone/predator modified anyway we like as long as it's safe, nothing extremely crazy!! Our league is "Buckeye Outlaw Kart Racing" (look us up on facebook www.facebook.com/buckeyeoutlaw) Ill probably be on here quite a bit and if you have any suggestion for our league or in building engines, PLEASE LET ME KNOW!! I appreciate any and all help, and hopefully can also be helpful to others.

Welcome to the forum.

Fortunately, there are loads of simple mods you can do plus there's lots of high performance parts available to you; give us an idea of what you've already done

My mods so far

Well, so far, my engine is a predator 212cc (old style). I have gone to a billet connecting rod, with wiseco flat top piston. billet flywheel w/ 7 degree timing key (probably will play with that a little more), mod 2 cam (I've heard the black mamba is good??), racing carb (.625, replaced Etube, jet is currently 37), header, racing air filter, high compression head milled .40, and changed my valves to 32mm and 25mm. Also have a medium heat racing spark plug. I have removed the govorner
I still need to figure out my jetting, but still dont have anything to get a head temp reading to help? I know people say you need a reading of around 400? When and how do you take that reading?
I know I can still mill the block itself, but not sure if I want to yet? The bottom to the top of the head is .200, the gasket is.035, and the gap between the piston at TDC and block is .030, so I figure I have some play room there to mess with.

Anyway that's what I have right now... Any suggestions on what to do next outside of getting my jetting right (is there a way without getting a head temp reading? I know read the spark plug, but anything else?)

Most all of the dash type guages use a ring that mounts like a indexing washer on the spark plug to read head temp. For tuning purposes though, exhaust gas temp will be a much more accurate guage to tune by. I'd do some asking with people that have built these engines, like NR Racing. That 32mm intake seems large in comparison to the 25mm exhaust. The intake size I see most common with a 25mm exhast is a 27mm.

After all that, It runs good... I hate to say great, cause I'm never completely satisfied. Also I dont have any data to share yet on how it runs as far as speed, rpm's, etc.. BUT, Running against others, I hold my own, of course I still have some work on kart setup, but it's getting there. I have good acceleration, but again always looking for more, and my top end is good. I would like to get it on a dyno just to see what it has, but don't know where or how much that costs?

Of course overall it's fast, fun and I like the sound of it!!!
