Na your fine mate.

As for your need of a clutch, the engine that was originally on the buggy was (more or less) a scooter engine. Unless you have a metal lathe, large tap and die set and really good skills you wont be able to make it's clutch fit your engine. A comet one *might work with that driven clutch but it would probably give quite poor performance. Another option would be to fit a sprocket where that driven clutch is, that clutch is probably a taper fit so you'd need to make an adapter to fit. Then you could have a normal centrifugal clutch and chain going to that little gear box or a pulley tensioner clutch of you wanted something cheaper (and in my opinion, better).

Thanks

Hayden

output on motor is 1 inch not tapered with 1/4 inch keyway 2 7/8 long , what size chain would you suggest im thinking 520 maybe . will a centrifical clutch hold up i live in the desert and do that type of driving a few hills and lots of sand.

What is that on the rear axle? Is that a differential, gearbox, or some type of reduction unit. A centrifugal clutch will be next to useless in sand. You will need some sand/deep tread tires, unless it is packed sand, and a CVT or motor with manual/semi-auto gearbox. 40 chain will hold up but larger will not hurt. If you buy a CVT (go kart style) you will need a new jack shaft sprocket for 5_ _ chain. They come standard in 35 and 40. Look for a snowmobile (wrong region, I know) or gas golf cart engine. Any larger quad/dirtbike will work for a good donor vehicle. Also, a wrecked motor cycle can be a good donor.

drive

thanks for your feed back. it just seems i'm not explaining well enough and i'm not sure of some of the terminology
i've enclosed a few pictures to kind of explain
it just seems that if i replaced the pulley that came off the motor with one that had the right size (1 inch) i could save a few bucks
the cart owner said it was a belt drive prior to him scrapping the motor

also i ride like every other offroader out there sand dirt rocks
run it till it breaks this is just a project to keep an old fart busy
and use up some of the junk i've collected
just dont know how to look up parts i have no idea what they're called

for terminology, engine pulley=driver js pulley=driven.
i would guess the "transmission" is most likely a housing for a sensor and a drum brake.
the thing with the gray line pointing to it is a reverse gear box.
you can get the clutch to fit by either machining the engine shaft, or getting a shaft the driver fits on and put that on bearings, run a chain from engine to the shaft w/driver on it, then just setup the rest normally. make sure the engine to shaft ratio is 1:1. depending on how these types of cvt's work (never used one so i can't say for sure) that should work. i am not totally familiar with this type of cvt, so if i missed something, please let me know.

p.s. you can edit your post if you wan't.

heres the parts i got from my friends 3/4 keyed jackshaft, 6 inch 3/4 v-belt pulley, 3inch 1 inch bore vbelt pulley. 3/4 18t sprocket (520 chain matches axle sprocket. still waiting for pillow blocks lost all the gear set up stuff think i'll need larger drive pulley (1 inch bore) gonna try this stuff to see if it will even move Made a new axle adapter so i can use 6 bolt motorcylce sprockets. started working on brake cylinders (need rebuild)
let me know what you think about the drive pulley size??

I think your pulley sizes are good.

I got ya hitting around 29mph if you added a 66 tooth axle sprocket with that combination. That's figuring with those 20" tires and 3600rpm.

Hey, how many teeth are on your old axle sprocket? Do you wanna try to re-use it?
We might be able to just swap your 3/4 18t sprocket for a different size to make it work.

Oh yeah, you still wanna try that 2-speed jackshaft mod for a granny gear?

Well then with your 2 pulleys, 39T axle and 11 tooth J/S out gear= around 30mph.
Don't know if its even available this small, but substituting an 8 tooth J/S out = around 22mph.

If you were to attempt that 18T J/S with your 39T axle sprocket you'd be geared for around 50mph... probably not a good thing.
