Ok FNG here....
As all adults do... I want my kids to have what I didn't growing up.
So... I got my kids a used Kart. They love it, BUT....
It's a YerfDog one wheel peel, and one wheel brake unit.
No solid rear axle. Spindles made of a material slightly stronger than a foam cooler. (6 year old bent one and I had to bend it back and weld it up stronger)

About 4 tanks of gas in the brake got so hot that it warped and doesn't stay wrapped around the little drum, so it wore through on one side.
I flipped the band around, and clamped a piece of angle iron onto the frame to hold it in proper alignment.
I know that's a band aid.

So... Onto the Jungle Website I went. Completely unknowing of what I was venturing into.
I found a 4 lug hub, disc brake kit. Sweet. I have 4 lugs. $130.
The spindles in the picture look to be straight up and down for the "kingpin" but are a different style than what I have.
The measurement was close to the C that is on the front of the Kart. Worst case, I can fab something up. No biggie...
Ordered. (I should have known better)

Kit shows up and this spindle is designed for ball joints. Crap. The "pin" isn't straight up and down. I can probably fab up a new "C" and make the spindle fit... No biggie.

Then I looked at the wheels. Well crap. Not even close. Then I started looking for wheels, I can't find any that fit this size. (forgot now, I'm at work)

What suggestions do you guys have for me? Return this kit and find something else? Convert it to a solid rear axle with a torque converter and a single rear disc brake?

I'm capable of fab work, I've got a Plazma cutter and wire feed welder. I've built a front end loader for my tractor, so I'm not overly worried about that part.... BUT.. if you guys have better ideas, I'm all ears.

Always start here before shelling out hard earned cash for a set of mystery parts that may or may not be suitable --- OR just watch YT videos on the subject ...might take you longer to learn though because many YT videos are only worth what you paid for them ($0). The 'old guard members' here can steer you right, always.

I am a dissenter and often say 'run what ya brung' instead of reinventing the wheel (haaa!) so one-wheel-peel it is. It will turn sharper (or be able to turn at all in certain situations), be nominally faster than a live axle with same engine/gear ratio/size (assuming you can obtain traction) and can burn rubber. Plus it is oddball and handles squirrelly.

Kids, plural? They each need a kart. This Yerf-dog can be kart #1.

About 4 tanks of gas in the brake got so hot that it warped

Suspect they were riding the brake the entire time. I'm gonna blame Daddy Dood here. The brakes were designed to last but nothing is totally idiot proof.... then again maybe the brake was already metal on metal...
:roflol:

Where's the pics and links?? It's the 21st Century, gentlemen, and we can transmit photos at near-speed-of-light.
By posting a link, you can "bounce your ideas" off of the forum, here, before completing any transaction.

Who cares? Go with the one-wheel-peel and use it the way it was intended... Buy another used kart and keep these kids karting all spring and summer long, out of the house, off the game console, sniffing bee pollen and exhaust whiffs and THEN you can shell out thousands to build your own custom Frankenkart.

Or just buy some brand new fully suspended Chinese buggies. ...https://gokartsusa.biz/collections/kids-go-karts

Sadly the stuff on amazon is about as cheap as it gets. Referring to quailty not price, necessarily. Get yer junk form one of the deaers here. The country of origin may be the same, but at least ya'll get the right stuff, that might actually work.
The design/modifications are up to you and what best suits your drivers.
l'm not a fan of the jungle shop.

Yeah... I've learned over the years about the wheel... I just didn't think there would be so many options that wouldn't work with a "simple" kart....

Kids... yes... but my 10 year old has very little interest in it. She will take a few laps, but that's about it. The 6 year old though....

He may have... but I don't think so.... could be wrong there.. been wrong before... ask my wife... I'll be wrong again!
BUT... he has 2 throttle settings.... WFO, and idle. Add to that there is a fair amount of braking from high speed... I'm thinking it's due to that. Could be wrong.

Right now I've got it band-aid'ed together so he can ride it.

I'll have to add links and such when later. Right now I'm at work eating lunch. lol
I'll check out the kids karts you listed above.

I do have a front..... half a frame that I may try and finish the back half and build into another kart with good brakes, and suspension. It's got the front suspension and steering, wheels, etc. Someone did a poor job extending the frame, so I'd chop that off, and return it to "stock" length, then set up a rear swing arm and roll over protection.
BUT... that opens a whole different can of worms... lol

For now I just need to make this one safer.

SAFETY THIRD! :wai:
You either don't have kids, or are maybe just being sarcastic. For kids that like noise and speed nothing is more fun than a kart or mini bike. But it goes a lot faster than their bicycle or other wheels toys. That's where the adult mind and a little common sense (saftey) come into the picture.

Sarcasm, it is my affliction.

However, my neighbor has little girls and they ride bicycles with training wheels on them in their driveway; it is flat and level and a mere 60 feet long, with the end that is exposed to the street blocked off with the family minivan. They never get above 0.01MPH and they are helmeted. It just seems a little excessive....

Helicopter parenting.

Couldn't agree with you more about the Helicopter parenting. My two daughters in law have made sure their children haven't done at 18years of age stuff I was getting away with at 12. Different world we live in today. But when a youngen is racing along at 30 to 40 mph, even I ( grandpa let em live and have some fun ) have to make sure that some reasonable safety precautions are in place.
