Put my Scooter X off road kart together. It has a 6.5hp engine, and off road tires. I plan on having some fun on a dirt track with some other guys that bought the same kart. On the top end it goes pretty dang fast, but is a dog out of the hole. I haven't played with adjustments on the engine at all yet. I was told in another post to maybe mess with the jet in the carburetor. The sprocket on it has 48 teeth (if I counted right). Would a different sprocket be helpful for out of the hole acceleration? I'm not so concerned with top speed I need more starting off speed and torque. The track we are on is a short dirt track with turns and short straight a ways.

I am new to the go karts so I am not sure what I can do to give me the off the line speed.

Thanks.

Yes....we need the toorh count on the clutch and a lot more information....but it's pretty much a given that sprocket has too few teeth....I'll go fast...but take all day to do it.....

:iagree: With a 48 tooth axle sprocket, even if there's a torque converter between it & the engine, it's too small... big tyres won't help either...

Here is a little more info:

The engine is a 4 stroke LIFAN 168F-2, 196CC, 6.5hp. I would assume it has a governor.

The axle sprocket has 48 teeth, and the clutch sprocket has 10 teeth. The tires are offroad 13x5.00-6. I will need these tires for the dirt track.

I am a beginner so sorry for the basic questions. I am just trying to get better acceleration out of the hole. Will removing the governor help with that maybe more RPM's?

I have been reading about sprocket size and there are a lot of different opinions. I do have a little clearance on the axle sprocket to go to a little bigger if needed.

Thanks in advance for any advice. Here a couple pics:
