Well I just stumbled on this forum after acquiring and researching what I think is a vintage go kart 70-80's maybe. Not sure of the MFG of the kart have the body off prepping for paint come spring. I was able to easily get the motor cooking after it has been sitting for years it has a little 3HP B&S.

Well that's all I got for now!!

Cool! That kart was made by Bird Engineering, if I'm not mistaken.
My kart is a Bird as well. I've heard of bodied Birds before, and the overall design is very similar(the seat back looks extremely similar in design to my kart's), with the exact same steering wheel, too.
I believe all Birds came stock with Tecumseh flatheads, so I don't think your engine is original. But I like Briggs better anyways.

Bird Engineering alright that a place to start.

I'm finding this Kart is just drumming up a new obsession to go along with bass fishing, bbq and brewing beer my wife just shook her head when my kids and I pulled it out of the back of my truck. Once it warms up around here the plan is to do a tear down and repaint before bass season opens. I would assume parts for these Karts are hard to find?

For the most part they're pretty generic, just make sure to measure twice before ordering.

Bird Engineering is out of business, and there's not much literature out there. If you google "bird engineering go kart" you can actually read the court records on Bird's bankruptcy. Personally it's hard to understand all the legal jargon.

Mostly all I know about Bird is that they were in Fremont, Nebraska, and run by the Schweser family. They also sold through Sears and JCPenney I believe. As far as I know they were in production from the late 50s/early 60s to the late 80s.
