Hey folks! My name is Patrick. I live in Texas and am in the process of working up a design for a go-cart for myself.....I mean, for my son.
I'm sure that's a typical story :).

Actually, I am wanting to build something for my son and I (and my wife if she dares).

I have some plans in mind and some actual 'blueprints', but I am trying to figure out what will be best for this first venture.

I hope to find some good stuff on the forum!

That's a very typical story here, at least you're willing to admit it :roflol:

There's literally piles of great info here, for whatever type of design you decide on. Make sure you have a good look around

Thanks for the welcomes!

Welcome! Which plans are you maybe working from?

-Denial is a way of life! :D

I was thinking about using the plans from Team-Moto "LT2" - mini sandrail, that my buddy bought a few years ago. It is designed for a motorcycle type engine and has a long travel suspension.
I considered building based off the basic design plans, but modifying to use 'lesser' material since I am not building something with that type of engine....and definitely not the cost.

I really think I am going to focus on something pretty simple. I'd rather get something built and running than overdue the project and never finish it.

The plans I have are to build this guy:

However, I really think it is way beyond what I am looking to do.
I would like to build something with similar shape, but much smaller and with 1x1 square tubing.
As for the engine, I am pretty well stuck on the Predator 6.5 from Harbor Freight. Not sure I am going to do better on a brand new engine.

My initial obstacles are that I want it to be a 2-seater and capable of fitting my 6'5" self. Part of me thinks I might need to step up to the 11hp engine, but that would require a torque converter (from what I understand), and I don't think I want the $500 additional cost over the 6.5hp.

I have been going back and forth about whether to incorporate suspension, or keep it rigid, but I think I am pretty well set on f/r suspension.

I am waiting for my price on the steel through work. I am hoping to get it ordered today. I am going to start with 60ft. I will order more as needed.
