Hi all,
We are new to this hobby and any suggestions on anything related to off-road karting will be greatly appreciated.
My sons are 15 and 12 and have been bugging us to get them a go kart for a few years now. We found some at a local shop that we're thinking about getting them for Xmas, the ones we are looking at are the kandi spyder 150cc (I think I got that right!)
So far I haven't been able to find anything bad about them in any reviews so pros and cons are welcome please!
Also, if anyone here in Oklahoma can let us know where we can go drive them please.

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum & to go karts.

First & foremost, that's a typical chinese kart, which usually means, it won't last long...

Before spending loads of cash on a new kart, why not check your local craigslist for a decent used one

Welcome to DIYGK! I agree about buyin a couple used karts and spiffin em up a little before buying a new one. Better bang for your buck.... Look at it like this..... Say the new one is $1200. You can buy and clean up 2 used karts for that much, and even if you spent $1400 ..... Youd have a kart for eachB] son that will last longer, give them more fun,and costing you less in the long run. (Replacing the cheap chinese parts)
As far as riding goes, anywhere you can get away with it..... lol

We live in Guthrie, about 35 miles north of Oklahoma City.
We checked Craigslist, All we found there were ones that had problems, parts missing, stuff like that.

You won't find a perfect used kart but, that's the whole point...

You can drop $2k on a new kart if you like but, that's not exactly our style...

Those are the type karts you pick up cheap.... that's what youre looking for. You got over 3 weeks to pick a couple up, order the needed parts, clean up/paint while waiting for parts, assemble, then RIDE! Gonna look at your C'list, ill post links to the gems....

Were looking for one with 2 seats, full suspension and a full roll cage type set up.
We used to have one that was a single seat, with some really short (about 6") springs on the front, it went a bit over 35 mph and it did great on dirt roads but it was really rough when we took it out in the fields by our house.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.
We ended up going to a local shop called Sooner Cycles and powers ports. we purchased a PGO Deluxe 150cc buggy, it is awesome!
There is a spot about 15 minutes from home at the Cimarron river that is open to the public for off road vehicles with tons of trails through the woods. so far we have been out there 4 times! The kids love it!

Here are a few, I will get some better ones once our weather gets back above freezing! (unless it actually snows, then we of course have to try it out...!)
