new from mn.? on converting race kart

new here located in mn. great site a lot of great ideas here. question is i was lurking on here about a year ago saw how a guy took a race kart and turned it into a off road kart by cutting apart and re welding it back together with some new tubing to gain ground clearence. any one here remember the post? i have a couple of older out dated oval karts id like to convert for the kids to ride any help would be great thanks jeff

Yeah I remember that thread too, but I couldn't find it. I think that dude was from down under/Oz.

Personally I'd just try to install some quad type tires that are just 3" or 4" taller and re-gear it.

If you mod//brace a race kart frame much you'll screw up how its designed to flex and end up with a turd that would never turn and handle as well as before. That'd be kinda like trying to mod an Indy car to race the Baja 1000.
