New clutch not engaging Hillard

I have new never used hillard clutch. I bought it a year ago and finally finished my engine installation and installed the clutch.

The clutch isn't engaging. The engine is a 13 horse power 346cc engine with 36000 rpm max. The go kart will move forward but very slowly and there is a lowed noise the sounds like the clutch isn't engaging or is slipping. I took the clutch back off and tried to take it apart but can't figure out how or even how to adjust it.

What is wrong and how do I fix it?

it's 3600 not 36000 max.. and that's the point.

check the color of your clutch springs (small cut tubes that interlock the weights)
to see what engagement speed they should have

since it's slipping, trying again and again will burn the clutch and render it useless in the end.

Most obvious thing:
you're geared MUCH too high,
since I strongly believe you don't have a 100 tooth axle sprocket

How do you take the clutch apart to see the color of the springs. I have tried but can't figure it out. Everything on Google says that there are set screws but this clutch doesn't have any set screws.

I agree with sid. I think your clutch may be working fine, but its 17-tooth sprocket is resulting in your gearing to be way too high. You need to post how tall your rear tires are, plus how many teeth your axle (and jack-shaft?) sprockets have.

hm.. good question, there should be a snap ring on the sprocket,
with it removed you should be able to pull the sprocket and drum off
(held together by another snap ring [bowed] from the inside)

But I don't have any hilliard clutch, so that's based on the partslist on their website.

It's hard to tell from the pic,
but basically you see the big bronze bushing and in front of that there should be a small snap ring, just bigger that the actual shaft maybe even without eyelets ...

My guess is also that you are geared too high. !& is waaay too many teeth for a clutch unless you have a jackshaft or a REALLY large axle sprocket

After I took the clutch apart I found out it wasn't the clutch. The sprocket on my jackshaft had worn down and spun.

I am now looking for a new jackshaft and sprocket as the sprocket was welded onto my jackshaft.

Does anyone know were I can get a mount, jackshaft, and sprocket?

For what vehicle again? Usually it is 2 sprockets, a shaft and 2 pillow blocks. Will that work.

Our advice would have gone in a totally different direction if we had known that you had a jackshaft. We assumed it was direct from clutch to engine. This is why pics speak a 1000 words
