Hey guys! I have had some time to work out some small kinks with the buggy, My clone comet 40 driver (the one with the three seperate weights) has been sticking after only like 30 minutes of riding. I have to tap it with a hammer to get it to release, but then it doesnt operate normally. Im wondering if it is actually getting that dirty and clogged that fast? when i dismantle it, it really doesnt look dirty. I noticed that the driven never goes all the way into overdrive, its not the motor or anything. it looks visually aligned, it is NOT covered but not many peoples are. Im just doing woods and field driving so its not like dirt is going EVERYWHERE. I dont have any comet lube, i had some powder graphite lubricant that i used last time but it still started messing up soon after. Should i try polishing any surfaces on the inside of the driver? messing with alignment?(the belt really doesnt look to be getting damaged.) make a cover for the driver? What should be my next plan of attack.
I will put better pics up soon
Thanks guys!

Hahahah yes, yes that sounds like a pretty good idea! It honestly doesnt look dirty or anything, i could show for general visual and alignment purposes :) but i will when i get off. Have yall had any experience with these slightly different driver clutches and their possible shortcomings?

I can't speak for the cheap chinese stuff, but a genuine 40 will put up with a lot of crap and abuse. If it doesn;t look that dirty, it probably isn't. If it still reasonably new, can you not return it. What brand is it?

I noticed that the driven never goes all the way into overdrive

The 40 does not have overdrive.

@treyfus
Sorry to bother you and I really can't help with your problem but I just got that engine and would like to see how you did the throttle hookup?

Thanks

Its the one they sell on gokartsupply.com , the logo is an interesting m. id have to go back and look into it to tell you the brand. comet karts has a breakdown image of it. (yes i know its not comet industries) haha just clarifying. It honestly may have some grains of sand in there but it really doesnt seem dirty. @jfxwave, i can post pics later on when i get off! its no problem at all.

I cant return it :( its really been a sore spot on my otherwise AWESOME build. Im about ready to buy a new driver to see if that fixes it.

The only lube i used ever was a little tube of fine graphite powder i use for reloading bullits. that may be totally different being as i had to just rub it around with my finger and it didnt seem like it stuck. So i should spring for the comet lube? i was wondering but some have said on here that lube is not really critical. I am unsure. after i get it unstuck with the hammer it will only travel some of the way, thus limiting my top speed greatly, then it sticks again haha. basically wont disengage once i engage it after that point.

should i bother trying to make a shield for it to block out dirt? I dont see anyone with 40 series doing this. So i will get some liquid wrench dry lube and clean everything out and then see how it works. if the lube doesnt fix it, it must be either alignment or a defective product.

I'd definately start with the clutch lube. Yea, spring for the comet. It's pricey but a can will last a long time.

Will do sir! Mine has never had any lubrication since i bought it, and its done this the whole time so maybe on this newer style the lube is more critical to quality.

It does not hurt to try. Again, I can't comment on the knockoffs, but my Comet 40 put up with all kinds of dirt, mud, sand, rain, snow etc with no issues. I never had it covered.

Well fix one thing break two? Ha ha i think i may have fixed the clutch with the lube and a shroud.but after some fun i hit a big rut and bent my axle lol.so now I will get a chromoly axle. Also when i got done riding the engine wouldn't quite idle.it stayed just high enough to try to engage the driver.the throttle on the engine was all the way to idle on the arm.

well I think I figured out why the idle was so high after I hit that big rut. I think it moved the governor arm just a little at the base. so that's an easy fix. so now I just need to go buy that axleaxle and then I'm looking at buying the intake and exhaust kit from affordablegokarts.com to get me a little bit more pick up:)

The clutches definately need lube. Comet lube is good stuff. Nothing else seems to work as good. You don't use a wet lube because dust and crap will cling to it.
