Wait...does that title mean it has new carb new gas new plug?

Starting fluid sucks...it's for snowmobiles in the AntArctic....use carb cleaner shot in the carb throat.

Never use starting fluid or carb cleaner, if more equipment that someone has sprayed it with that stuff. Just gas is all you need in a squirt bottle.
Take the carb apart and clean the varnish out and new plug and change the oil. And on that old of a motor I would test the leak down on it

If you have gas in the carb, a good spark, and air, there isn't a whole lot left except compression and timing.
You did set the gap on the new plug, right?
Is it a nice bright spark?

Maybe there was a reason it had been put away.
I guess if all the above are good, it's time to remove the valve cover for a look see.

I would try another coil. My trimmer would try to run or run then quit. Had spark but it was weak. Used coil on eBay. If you have to guess, guess cheap. Report back.

Ok to rule everything else out (carb problem) just take the dang carb off and spray a squirt of starter fluid in the intake hole. It should start within 1-3 pulls, then rev high, then die. If it doesnt start when you are doing that, its guaranteed not a carb issue.

I had a little tecumseh 5 hp fun power engine. worked on it for a while got it running, and was selling it. The guy wanted to see it run, and I coudlnt get it to start for the life of me. Turns out there was a green wire that had been tied into a kill switch, that had to be grounded to the engine so it would start. WTF, but as soon as I touched it to the engine it started right up. Dumbest thing ever.

Plug gap or coil gap? I have never gapped a plug in my life. I just assume they come correctly gapped from the factory. What plug are you using?

Moron!

You always check your gap with a spark plug gap gauge. They can have the wrong gap (manufacturing flaw or variance) or you may desire to modify the gap yourself in the interests of performance.

But you always gap your spark plugs just to be sure.
