New build starting with a Baja Warrior frame

Hello everyone.

I got bit by the mini bike bug a few weeks ago after riding a buddy's Coleman all over his property. These things are a hoot! Found this forum and thought I'd sign up.

Anyway, I started digging through my various scrap piles from previous scooter/motorcycle/moped projects, found a frame on craigslist, and slapped an old pressure washer engine I had laying around in it. Here's what I have so far:

Still a work in progress, need to fiddle with the tank a bit and a ton of other stuff, but it was fun sitting on this and making vroom vroom noises.

Currently looking at wheel and tire solutions, but I'm not sure what to do. Should I stick with the stock wheels/tires that come on a Baja Warrior? I'm trying to keep costs down as much as possible, but I don't want to make it unsafe. Any recommendations?

Welcome! Bajas are awesome minibikes.

As far as wheels and tires go, where do you plan to ride? There are lots of tires that fit the stock wheels. I would recommend you buy the stock wheels and get tires after that.

If you do strictly off road in grass, then the stock ones would be great, but they wear fast on pavement. The ones I have on mine are super smooth on road and do well for light off roading. In fact, the other day I was riding with my dad on our Bajas and we came to some very thick mud; my "street" tires did just as well in it as his stock type tires did...go figure!

PS: These tires are good off road, However for on-road I would use the tires that Panhead has on his. Oh, And make sure that the tires have at least 5-7 psi (I usually use 10 psi) in them or you'll low side a lot. I found that out the hard way.

Ha, that bag is full of all the random nuts, bolts, mounting brackets, etc that came with the frame. I do like food though. A little too much.

Thanks for all the links, y'all. Those are super helpful and point me in the right direction. It's mostly going to be offroad, but I may do "test drives" around the neighborhood on pavement.

I hope to get this thing off the ground in the next few months. Hopefully I can get a build thread going.

Haha I know they aren't the stock tires, which is why I said they look like the stock tires. I couldn't seem to find the actual stock tires, so nice find.

I agree, the ones on the bike are good all around tires, but do wear very quickly on road...I put on a back tire like the original front tire and it was wearing out quickly (like 6 months or less) so I went with the street tires. The street tires are awesome, very smooth and look great on the bike.
