I just bought a new belt for my go kart, it has a comet 20 tc on it. After adjusting the belt and taking it for a 10 minute ride I noticed a few strands on the side away from the engine. These strands are very small but I was wondering if this is normal after so little use? Everything appears to be lined up.
Any help would be appreciated.

A few strands are ok. Is the belt getting hot? - or just warm? Hot is a problem that must be corrected, while warm is normal. How long did the old belt last, and is the replacement the same part #? Also, what did you do to adjust the belt. Should not need adjustment for replacement...

The kart was given to me with an automotive type fanbelt on it, so I bought a comet 203583 belt and had to move the engine back approx 1/8" to keep the wheels from spinning at idle. I'd say the belt was just warm and again the fraying was minimal. It just didn't look like a brand new belt anymore and I just want to address any issues before they arise.

I'm not able to post a pic with my phone...I'm sure I'm doing it wrong, but the belt has approximately 1" of play when I press the top of it.

Save the pic from your phone to your 'my documents' section of your computer(assuming that you have a plug to link your phone with your computer or that you can email yourself the pic from your phone)(Do you have a digital camera? You can use that...). Click 'post reply' on this forum. Click 'manage attachments' in the 'additional options' field on the bottom of the page. Click 'browse' and go to 'my documents'. Find your picture and double click on it. Click on the 'upload' button and wait for it to load. Simple.

As for your belts play, that is not what Blaz meant. With the belt at it's highest point on the driven pulley flanges, and the outer half of the driver clutch removed; squeeze the belt forward on the driver pulley shaft with a pinch. Position the engine so that there is 1/8" to 3/16" of clearance around the clutch bushing/hub.

Now let's see those pics...
