Got a new axle kit from GoPowerSports, everything installed fine, save for the wheels. It's a 1" axle, the bore on the wheels is 1", has a locking collar to keep the wheels from sliding in.

My question is, how far from the outside of the axle do you install the locking collar?

You could put a nut and washer on the end.. tighten to the shoulder(might need a few, but higher than the hub of the wheel).
Put key in, slide wheel to the washer, slide over and tighten the lock collar against the wheel.

I looked up the 1” axle kit and it does say to use lock collars behind the wheel (which you wouldn’t need with a stepped wheel).
I’d say leave 1/2” of the threads sticking out past the washer & nut and use the lock collar behind the wheel.
Can’t see why it wouldn’t work.
You could always call them and ask for their advice.

Be a pain to work with all the washers but it'll work.

It does come with a lock collar, that's what I was thinking originally is to do as you described. Figured I'd ask and made sure I was thinking right.
