I purchased the Coleman kt196 ($700 new at Wally World) for my son it's going to be his Christmas present and I am wanting to fix it up a little bit before he gets it. There is a website where I found some performance parts and I'm not sure if it will work on the kart. I also would like to replace the wheels and tires on it(the aluminum wheels in the photo). My questions are since the kart has a splined live axle where can I find some hub adapters to make the wheels in the photo work? Will the tires in the photo work for the rear? I would want some smaller/narrower tires for the front could anyone point me in the right direction for the sizes available? Also will the performance kit in the photo work with the engine that is on the kart? From what I have read it seems to be a gx200 clone. Is that correct? The photos of the kart are from google as the kart is not assembled in a box sitting in the shed. Any help is greatly appreciated.

How old is your son? Tires are one thing, but performance mods can make a relatively safe 25 mph go kart go 45 mph and **** off the neighbors.

He is 10 but he has been riding atvs and dirt bikes since he was 5. This is just his first kart. We live outside of town and have another place to ride so noise wouldn't be much of a problem.

Just learned from reading threads here this is not a kart but a mini buggy. I will try to use correct terminology from now on lol.

That's OK...better than calling it a "cart"!

I've actually seen these karts at Wally World.. and they look pretty good to me...

BTW:Screw those SNOBS that want to call that KART a buggy. It's a kart.

I only just read about these a week or so ago. So they are relatively new to the market. Rejetting the carburetor, k&n type air filter with adapter and aftermarket exhaust are the most commonly done mods. I think this engine is the same that's on the Coleman CT200 and DT200 bikes and drift trike. GoPowerSports (a sponsor of this forum) should sell aftermarket kits for this engine if it's the same as CT200U and EX engine as well as the new Drift trike.

Removing the governor in the engine will allow it to spin faster allowing more speed.
