need upgrades

its done . all that work and money and i got to take it for a spin around the yard. and she rips it was great but one problem well realy two the brake system realy needs a upgrade the band brake aint going to cut it. and the steering is real jerky its eather all the way left or all the way right it seems there aint no in between. real hard to keep it straight is it posible to put a damper shock on it you think that would help?

snowmobile brakes off ebay.. whole setup like 30-40 bucks 1 inch shaft slotted and cross drilled even..

I assume you're talking about your go kart? How long is your pitman arm? Check out the length of the one in the free plans here: http://www.diygokarts.com/images/plans-kart/steering-connections-750.jpg

Just in case you didn't know, the pitman arm is the piece of steel connected to your steering rod, at the opposite end from the steering wheel. If it's really long, it would make small adjustments of the wheel much bigger. it could also have something to do with the length of your front axle pieces, or front tire angle. Just some stuff to look at.

sled brakes aint going to work i got a 3/4 shaft and cant find a disc with 3/4 bore. the pitman arm is fine. its a factory made frame.could the tires be to big would that make the steering fall to one side or the other?

yes if tyres are too far out on the front axle it will pull to side as theres more leverage on the end of the axle

Move the inner tie rod attachment point closer to the steering shaft, or the outer end of the tie rod farther from the spindle, either one will slow the steering rate to a more gradual angle change.

Caster angle affects "touchiness". The bottom of the spindle should be forward of the upper part of the spindle as viewed from the top of the kart looking forward. This is generally how all vehicle alignments on full size vehicles are set so they track straight down the highway. There are other factors that affect it, but caster is usually the culprit. Check it out.
