I have a log splitter whose back bone is 4" square tube and the splitter blade slides up and down on a piece of 4.5" square tube, the 4.5" square tube has exanded outwards on the front and back, squeezing the left and right sides inward and at certain points along the 4" backbone the 4.5" slide pinches, so what can I put inside the 4.5" tube to expand the left and right? I was thinking of a scissor jack but I don't know if one would fit in there

I can kind of see this in my mind, do you have a picture or a link to a picture?

How about a quick description? Get a bolt and nut (at least 1/2" or bigger), assemble the two. Measure the height from the bottom of the nut to the top of the head. Then measure the space you need to put it in to spread your tube. Subtract the dimension you measured for your bolt w/nut plus a little more, say 1/8". Thats the length of the piece of pipe you need.

Take the nut/bolt assembly, and install it in the end of the pipe. Slide the whole thing into the tube you want/need to spread. Using two wrenches, screw the bolt out of the nut against the inside of the tube; this is the jack to force the sides of the tube back out where they belong.

Another visual reference; just look at a bottle jack. You can screw the extension out of the body of the main ram; only this time you're using the threads of the bolt to provide the power.

Hope this helps a little. Good luck!!!:cheers2::popcorn:
